If they knew it was there before lift off and had time to calculate whether it would cause problems, why didn't they just take it off before lift off? :confused:

I imagine that would have been a very expensive proposition (manpower and equipment) to go thru for an injured bat that most likely is doomed to die anyway because of his injuries.
