Hi everyone! It's been a long time since I've actively posted on PT, but I'm hoping to get back into it.
For a little bit of background to anyone who doesn't remember, I've loved orientals for a long long time. It all started here with the journey of Phinehas, my Oriental Shorthair kitty: http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=118579&highlight=oriental+express

This is his official introduction to the group: http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=121532&highlight=oriental+express

I have added a new member to my little family and, as it turns out, this new member is Phinehas's grandson!

Here is Malachi (pronounced mal-uh-kie):
http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2124/119/18/809319965/n809319965_1997250_8414.jpg

Malachi is 6 months old and is the son of Jeeves who is the son of my Kitty Phinehas. :)
Malachi is an ebony ticked tabby oriental shorthair. I had actually gone to visit his breeder and see Jeeves and Ouzo, who are kitties that were retired and available. I really fell in love with Jeeves, but he was so close in purrsonality to Phinehas that there may have been a conflict since they are both alpha cats. Linda suggested I take Malachi as he would probably be a better fit for my family and Phinehas of course comes first. Malachi is a very scared kitty, so I'm hoping he will come out of his shell soon. The introduction of Phinehas to Malachi is going pretty well, but we still have some work to do.

This is what we've been doing with Malachi in hopes of getting him used to us. Linda said we should just hold him and pet him and get him used to our voices.

Poor little thing was really scared and just laid there at first. If you look closely, he's sticking his little tongue out:

Phinehas (aka "grandpa") is looking at baby Malachi:

Malachi after he's loosened up a bit. He even started making biscuits!
http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2124/119/18/809319965/n809319965_1997257_740.jpg

Phinehas will make a good grandpa!

That's all for now! Hope you enjoyed!

Thank you guys! :D You are all very welcome to come and visit us anytime you want and bring your cameras ;) I really hope Malachi was the right choice and gets comfortable with us. Linda said he'll probably never be as outgoing as Phinehas, but as long as he's good with us I'll be happy. :)

I was a little concerned because he didn't eat any food when we brought him home on Saturday and even by Sunday afternoon he hadn't touched anything. We sat with him and Phinehas coming in and out of the bathroom all day on Sunday, so that's when it seemed like Malachi was starting to adjust a little. That tiny kitty really went to town last night though! I went to check on him this morning and he had knocked down the wrought iron candle holder and unrolled all the toilet paper! The place was a disaster! LOL I took the candles out and cleaned up the room. He also had eaten all his wet food that I had put down and some of his dry food, so that was good progress. :)

He's still really scared when we first go in to see him, and he tries to hide. We grab him and put him on our laps and pet him and he starts to loosen up again. I'm hopeful he'll come around.

Phinehas is interested and has only hissed a few times, but no real agression. The kitten seems interested in Phinehas and that's when he seems to really loosen up on our laps is when Phinehas is in the room. Probably reminds him of his daddy!

Thought you all might like to see a picture of Phinehas's son Jeeves. Here he is making himself at home in my lap!

It was amazing how similar to Phinehas he was! I wanted to take him right then and there! LOL

And....I think we have a daddy's boy in the making (my husband and Malachi):

Hello, Malachi and Phinehas! Sweet Malachi, you are so handsome, and I love your elegant coat pattern. I know that wasn't really you that unrolled all the toilet tissue ;) Welcome to PT!

Malachi is very handsome and I love his name.:)
Congratulations on the new addition, that's really cool that he's related to Phinehas too.
What color are their eyes? They both look like their eyes are more green than blue in the pictures you posted.

Awwwwwwwwww, they are both absolutely gorgeous!! Such sweet faces!! I have never seen an oriental for real, but these pics make up for that!! Is this the same "breed" as Catmandu's Miquelito?? The shape of their face is identical:)
I love the name, and what I love the most is that your 2 cats are so close related!! I guess that Phinegas name will be "Grandpa" from now on :):)

Good luck!!

Congrats Karen & Hubby!!!:D Malachi sure is an adorable addition.:)

I was lucky enough to be with her and her hubby when they went to look at the cats up for adoption from Phinehas's breeder.:) We also got to see some 2 week old and 3 week old kittens. I fell in love with a chocolate 6 month old kitten who is Malachi's brother but the breeder was keeping him. Jeeves really is Phinehas's twin both in looks and personality. I think that Malachi was the purrfect choice for the new addition. I know he's going to fit in nicely.:) I don't live very far from him so I'll be able to go visit him and to take care of him and his brother when they go out of town.:)

Gosh, they're beautiful, young and young at heart both!
They sure have that "I'm to be adored" look down pat, too. Around here, I get the "I'm to be fed now!" and "No, the bed is mine tonight, leave the pillow" looks.

They are both amazing, congratulations on two beautiul babies.:)

Thanks everyone! :D

Malachi has made a lot of progress in such a short amount of time. To be honest, I'm really surprised because of how scared he was, but he really seems to open up when Phinehas is around. :D He's certainly adjusting to Phinehas faster than he is adjusting to us, but Linda said that was to be expected with a kitty like Malachi. He will look up to Phinehas to guide him and give him confidence. I finally had Phinehas and Malachi interacting together last night when before they really just "saw" each other. The baby likes to follow Phinehas around and sometimes Phinehas has enough and grumbles a bit, but it doesn't phase the baby at all! LOL We played with them last night with the laser light, so I'll be sure to post some new pics soon.
Malachi was actually meowing his little heart out this morning when he heard us stirring. What a big difference in just a few days! I think this will be a good match. :)

Thank you dear! :) Yes, their eyes are green :) The oriental standard calls for green eyes only; unless the cat is white - the standard allows for blue or green eyes for whities. :)

Yes, I believe Miquelito is also an Oriental shortair :)

Welcome to PT, Malachi! What a handsome little kitty boy you are, it will be a real treat to see more pictures of you and watch you grow.

Wishing you many years of love and companionship with your new furever family! As your fellow kitty Groucho says, PT kitties only get the very best of everything. Please ask your Meowmie to give you lots of welcome lovies from me?

Karen, this is wonderful news!!!:D I knew things would work out between these two and I'm sure that in time Malachi will love you as much as Phinehas does. I look forward to seeing many more pictures of their progress. Before you know it they'll be snuggling in a cat bed together.:)

Guess what?? They were doing this all last night! :D It was annoyingly cute! The baby is really smitten with Phinehas. As soon as I open the bathroom door, the baby hides...but if Phinehas is there, he comes right out and starts purring and chirping. OMG! Cuteness overload for sure! I'm so pleased.
I called Linda and gave her the update. She was glad because she figured the baby would be a good fit for Phinehas. I also found out that Jeeves and Ouzo have found a home...in New Jersey! She's going to take them there herself in April, but she's glad they are being placed together. At least I'm not tempted to get Jeeves then! HA!

Thanks everyone! :) Malachi seems to be adjusting. I had him out a bit yesterday since I had cleaned the bathroom I was keeping him in. While the floor was drying, I held Malachi on my lap and he did well. He trembled a bit, but as long as he could see Phinehas, he was ok. He even started to fall asleep! I think I'll be able to let him out of the bathroom soon since he's not always running/hiding when I open the door. This morning he was waiting for me and crying, so that's good improvement. Now we just need to get over the hurdle of Phinehas's health issue, and I'll feel so much better about leaving Malachi out in the main room.

That's great to hear that Malachi is doing so well.:) Maybe I can come over and see both of them this weekend. I'll be sure to bring my camera to take more pictures too.;)

Yes, from the pictures Phinehas sure doesn't look stressed to me but I know how cats can hide things. I sure hope that Phinehas's health will start improving. I'll keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks everyone :) Malachi is definitely coming out of his shell...oh boy. I've never had a kitten before so this is going to be an adventure I'm sure. He was meowing his little brains out this morning, so I opened the door and let him out. He came right out and started following Phinehas around. Malachi is going to be a handful, I can see it now!

Oh yes kittens are so much fun and have so much energy.:) I've found that female kittens seem to be a bit naughtier than males though (at least mine were).;) I look forward to coming by this some time this weekend.:)
