Well, do ya?:D

I live about 15 minutes from Pasadena, where the Rose Parade is held.

Have never been to it. It's way too cold, but I may do it before I die. My dad was a parade FIEND. We went to all the holiday parades in the area. LOL, maybe that's why I am so tall today-I couldn't bear the thought of missing out from the back row!

I remember sitting on the curb in different areas of the valley for the the different parades will all my sibs.

As we got older, Dad would still trip on the parades with one caveat!

I had to record them for him, Someplace in my mom's house there are the parade tapes that were always recorded, and almost never watched!

They do a re-run of the RP here in lost angeles on some of the local stations ALL DAY LONG! SO long into the day dad would sit there, watching the fun, waiting for his copy! I could have given him a blank, for all he knew, But the smile on his face said it all!

The absolute best is that we sometimes get a flyover of the airplanes for the opneing of the parade and the Rose Bowl football games. If you forget you hear the HUGE rumbling of the jets as the pass over, then run out in your nightclothes to take in the show

One year we had the B-2 bomber along with two other fighter jets as escorts giving us out own private parade! This was for the football game. They made about 12 orbits of the area then passed RIGHT OVER THE HOUSE!

Anyway, got 1/2 hour before the show starts.....Get you treats ready and enjoy the show....

Oh, the running joke here in Cah lee fuh nee ah is the weather on Jan.1!
We joke that all the people from around the world see the brilliant weather we always have and want to move out here! I know that that isn't the truth-but it's a nice story to believe!

But it sure beats those temps in NYC in Time's Square, no?;)

Have a nice day and really.....enjoy the show.

LOL, I live to the left of the camera shot.......You won't see me but I will wave!

Neat!

Richard, I was like you r Dad , when I was growing up. If there was a parade, I wanted to BE THERE!

Now I am happy to watch them on TV (local cable covers all the close ones!)

Off to watch the Rose Parade, one of my favorites!

Right now I'm watching (and taping) the Rose Parade. One of my favorite memories was when growing up in the sixties we would go down to my dad's appliance repair store (he sold TVs, too) and watch the parade on one of those new-fangled COLOR TVs! Now I'm watching it in hi-def.

So Richard, did you see the B-2 this morning? It was glorious.

For the first time in several years, I watched the parade from beginning to end. Loved it all. Watching on HGTV, and you see every float. Very few interruptions.

No, I didn't see it fly or on the tube...
I watched until I saw the people jumping in the pool on that one float and geve up....Too early and cold to swim!

I am waiting for the football game to start and the replay of the parade.:D

I've never been to a big parade, only our little locals ones. I am sure I could have seen big parades, when I lived near Chicago, Indianapolis and Denver, but I guess I wasn't interested.

I took my son to parades when he was younger, but now that he is almost grown and doesn't care anymore, I certainly don't go. Crowds of people are not at all my thing, and the weather here is almost always lousy.

I remember watching parades on TV with my parents when I was a small child, I was fascinated by the huge balloons. But I haven't watched one on TV in decades.

So, I guess I'm the exception to "Everyone Loves A Parade".

My Friend lives next door to Pasadena and he watches it from his T.V.
if he watches it all. :(
I started watching the re-runs and fell asleep.
I missed the Stealth bomber. My Aunt said it was awesome.
When I was with my X, we would sleep overnight in the car and
watch the parade the next morning. I remember how cold it was.
Now I watch it from the TV tube.
I got a kick watching the dog Tillman
ride the skateboard on the float. I remember him and his owner
from that T.V. program "Best talented Dog or something like that".

I LOVE parades! I always feel like I missed out on lots when I was young cause my sister was scared of EVERY bloody thing! Parades, clowns, circus', dark theatres...oi vey! We still give her a hard time about it.
I do remember going to the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade one year..I must have been 7 or 8, and freezing my proverbial tookus off!
I go to every parade I can now. Gay Pride in SF is not to be missed! I even rode a float once  LOL! St Pats is pretty fun too. I'd love to see the Rose Parade.
Fireworks and Parades are the two things that make me teary in a good way.:p

I saw Tyler and Tillman on the NBC Nightly News tonight. What cuties and how great that they had their own float! Mack wished he could be with them.
We turned on the parade for a while this morning. My first cousin, Nancy, was with Al Roker, hosting the parade and it was nice to see her. We don't get to visit in person very much these days, being on the opposite sides of the country.
All my husband could say when we were watching was "what a waste of good money". I guess I have to agree with him.

The post parade market is quite lucrative.

You used to be able to see the parade floats after for free. I went with my dad once to try, no parking -10 bucks a spot and three to get into the area.

A few years ago it's ? to park, 10 to get in and they strip the flowers, package them as potpourri and sell them for some jacked up price.

The float 'steel' and forms are recycled.

Cold concrete on hemorrhoids is usually a good reason to skip a parade.

I'm feeling kind of un-American here, since parades, especially if they're lengthy, tend to bore me. I like the little hometown parades with the local fire companies and school bands - just short enough. I've never managed to watch the Rose Parade all the way through, and the only time I paid any real attention to it was the year back in high school when our school band was in it.

And the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia - 12 hours!- no way. This year the city cut funding so the parade was shortened to just over 6 hours. That's still at least 5 hours more than I could handle! :(

I remember that - the year was 1960. Does that date us?

You got it!!! I wasn't in the band, but had friends that were. It was such a BIG deal and was I ever envious! And in 1961 they were in the Inaugural Parade too. We may have been Little Rhody - but we were good!!! :D
I guess our age is no secret anymore! Yes all you young PTers - we've been around for a while. :p
