We've had a different thread going in which I was talking about how lower megapixel cameras can do almost as good a job taking pix as an expensive camera. More often than not it's the photo technique, and lighting that makes more of a difference, not megapixels.

In the bunches of posts in the thread I think the quiz kinda got buried so I posted it by itself here.

Oh, and for reference, I do NOT own Adobe Photoshop.

My processing program is an off brand name, and about equivilent of maybe Photoshop Elements I think, it only cost $100. I don't know how to use half of the things it does. My photo editing is minimal and consists of mostly basic stuff with mostly the auto settings in the program.

Now, here's a quiz for you....

Which pix was taken with the
2 megapixel A40,
the 3.2 megapixel S1,
the 6 megapixel S3 point and shoots,
or the 10.1 megapixel XTi DSLR???
(yes all Canon cameras)

Can you guess???

I'll give you guys a couple days to make some guesses, then I'll give you the answers to which megapixel camera took which in each set. I think the answers may be eye opening.

First guesses from other thread

I had thought that I'd have my laptop today so that I could see the pictures on a clearer screen. But since it doesn't look like that will be happening because of the snow, I'll take my guesses with this subpar monitor.

Bug catagory:

1. 3.2 mp
2. 6 mp

Fireworks:
1. 6 mp
2. 10.1 mp
3. 2 mp

Sunset
1. 3.2 mp
2. 6 mp

Beach
1. 2 mp
2. 3.2 mp
3. 6 mp

Did I get any correct?

Does this mean I need to go search the other thread for my guesses?
Or maybe now since you're giving another couple of days, I might change them once I see them on my laptop with the better monitor. ;)

ETA: Nevermind, I guess you found the other guesses for me. LOL

Thanks for the compliment Jen!

Since no one else has guessed I'll go ahead and post the answers for those that are interested.

Bug catagory:

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/IMG_0160.jpg
1. XTi DLSR 10.1 megapixel Taken this summer. To be fair, the heavier weight of the camera, a bit of breeze on the web, and handholding in low light is the result of this pix not being as good as the other. User error, not camera problem. If you notice the background is more out of focus and less distracting, benefit of DSLR lens that point and shoots don't quite do.

2. A40 2 megapixel Taken 2003. Bright light, small lightweight camera is easy to handhold, Macro setting, waited until the breeze stopped and shot. Camera naturally tends to over saturate the colors. Yet another reason I keep it sometimes in favor of the more expensive cameras.

Fireworks catagory

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/112-1229_IMGMedium.jpg
1. S1 3.1 megapixel Taken 2005. Pretty good sharpness on the firework trails for a point and shoot.

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/fireworks2.jpg
2. XTi DSLR 10.1 mp Taken this July. Sharpness is slightly more evident in firework trails.

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/151-5162_IMG.jpg
3. A40 2 mp taken 2003. Quality loss in fencing and ground area where the noise of the smaller sensor is more obvious. Could have looked a bit better if I'd had my white balance set correctly though....oops user error again.

Tripod and manual settings used for all 3 cameras for the fireworks.

Sunset catagory (yes same location, slightly different view, different year)

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/IMG_0441Medium.jpg
1. XTi DSLR 10.1 megapixel Taken this July, subtle and boring colors on the sunset made for a lackluster picture. Effect of how quality and colors of light relates to the subject to make it look good or bad, not a camera problem.

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/IMG_2553Medium.jpg
2. A40 2 megapixel Taken 2003. Terrific colors on the sunset that day, and as said before, the camera naturally tends to oversaturate the colors.

Beach catagory (yes same beach, different crop, different year & weather)

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/STA_1674Medium.jpg
1. XTi DSLR 10.1 megapixel Taken 2006 Cold crappy weather, heavy overcast, taken late fall.

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/124-2404_IMGMedium.jpg
2. S1 3.2 megapixel Taken 2005. Semi overcast day, very windy, crappy quality of light. Taken early fall.

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/Catlady711/160-6060_IMG.jpg
3. A40 2 megapixel Taken 2004 Was a beautiful day, great side lighting where I needed it, and as said before, this camera tends to oversaturate the colors. Taken in the Spring.
