I didn't know what to call this thread because there are a varity of pictures.

These first ones are of a tug boat on the Mississippi River 30 miles or less from where I live during Hurricane Gustav. I get scared just looking at them. I never would have thought the river would get this bad, this far up. This was mile 175... meaning 175 river miles from the Gulf of Mexico.

One of our newest deckhands is a retired Navy guy who wanted a job on the water again but not in the medical field. He was the submaries only medical person, he said equal to a nurse practioner. He brought this shirt to work in and it cracked me up when I realized what it said....

The Challange!

Our Captain challanged the deck crew to a rope throwing toss one day after lunch. The guys are required to be able to toss these ropes a lot out there and get it on those buttons.. Everybody took the challange but me and one guy. I think our newest, greenest deckhand won the toss with the most hits on the target.

As you can see, tow boaters are easily amused...

Wow those storm pictures are amazing!!

And I can see why you wouldn't want to participate in the rope throwing challenge. Those ropes are thick and I'm sure pretty heavy.

What a clever captain you have. Makes a fun time out of a necessary skills practice! Bet he is a great boss.

They are Coast Guard approved PFD's that are required. I sometimes wonder if they would keep those big men afloat too but they say they do...

He is a wonderful boss! The best one I have ever worked with, that is why I have been with him for 8 years. He is like a old mother hen with his crew and worrys about everybody. He is the kind of boss that bends over backwards to help you and he don't like any troublemakers on the boat, don't put up with attitudes. He is just a great person, a wonderful story teller and a historian on that Mississippi River. He is a very smart man to boot.
