Firemen rescue tree branch

Fire fighters climbed 45ft up a tree to rescue an iguana - only to find it was an algae-covered branch.

Concerned members of the public called the RSPCA after seeing what they thought was a lizard up the tree at Cove, near Farnborough in Hampshire, reports the Daily Mail.

Fire officers sent an animal rescue expert and an aerial platform to the scene, but it wasn't until he was 7.5m up the tree that he realised it was an illusion.

Colin Horwood, animal rescue advisor for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The branch bore a striking resemblance to an iguana when seen from the ground.

"I have never seen anything like it. We take all animal rescues seriously but in this case it was a good intent false alarm.".

The RSPCA had rescued a real iguana in the area the week before.

"Members of the public reported seeing what they thought was an iguana moving several times," said RSPCA spokeswoman Jo Barr.

"Because it was so high up we needed the fire service's help to get it."

I like it that they called an animal rescue expert in....He may have been an expert in RESCUING animals, but identifying them?;)

Ithink he should keep his day job!:D
