I found a crib mattress with a soiled and torn cover'
Voila , off came the cover and there was a foam mattress with a quilted top.

Another good recyle technique, some carpet stores have carpet samples they just throw in the trash. The samples are the perfect size for scratching pads, mats, and sleeping spots. You may call around and see if anyone has any.
