My friend (the same one that recently lost the family Husky, Cyan) has a kitty that is 19 years old. She has been with her Daddy (my friends husband) all of her life. Just within the last week she has not been eating or very active. She has been very healthy and active all of her 19 years.
They took her to the vet on Saturday and were told it was just the heat. They rehydrated her and sent her home. She continued to not eat, so they returned to the vet yesterday. Extensive tests were ran and everything looked good except her liver level. An xray was taken because the vet suspected she had something wrong in her tummy and a spot was seen. The vet called in a specialist to help determine where the spot was. Worst case was it was on the pancreas. So of course, that's where the spot is, in her pancreas. Results just came back and it is cancer. :(
They are sending her home with some meds to help her be comfortable for a while.

So if anyone could spare some good thoughts for Groucho, they would be greatly appreciated.
I will add a photo of her as soon as I get one downloaded.

Thank you Gary.
That reminded me of something my friend told me. She had told her husband she'd never felt the way she is feeling when losing a pet in the past. He said it's because you never knew Groucho. She wasn't just a cat, she was a person.
That definitely brought tears to my eyes. :(

I feel bad for Groucho and for the family. I hope that she's comfortable with the medications and that they'll get to cherish more time with her.

Awe... poor Groucho. I hope that the vet can do something to help get rid of the cancer?? Is that possible, or is pancreatic cancer kind of like human cancer in the way it's so serious? One of my dad's best friend's was diagnosed with Pancreatic, Liver, Stomach and Esophageal cancer. It's so sad, but darn, he is a fighter! I hope that they can do something for Groucho so that he will live for many more years!

Well, they could do exploratory surgery and possibly chemo and all that. But with her being 19 years old they figured it would be harder on her. I think it is past the point of an easy fix.
You know how cats do not let you know they are sick until it's almost too late? That's exactly what she did. She didn't show any signs until last Thursday or so.

{{{{hugs}}}} to Groucho's humans. Prayers that Groucho is comfortable and enjoys her time with her loving family, and her adoring Papa.:love:

Taz...do you think we might be honoured with a pic of Groucho? I am sure she would like some oohs and aahs of herself. :)

Yes, Candace, I am going to get a picture. She was too busy with Groucho to send me one this afternoon. But she told me to get it off her myspace, but I can't. So I will have a friend at work get it for me (I do not have a myspace page).

Thank you for the kind words everyone. :)

Oh, she just texted me and said she sent two pix to my work email. So I'll upload them first thing in the morning.

Poor Groucho. I hope she feels better, even if they can't get rid of the cancer. It's sad how the senior cats tend to crash all of a sudden.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.

Here are a couple pictures of Groucho. You can see how she got HER name. :)

I just read the terrible news about Groucho and I feel so sad about her and her humans. I'm actually crying because it reminded me of how we suffered when our little baby Chester passed away... but also reminded me how we prayed for our little Sophie cause she had a hard time when she was a baby... and she's still with us.
My prayers for Groucho and her human family, big hugs for all of them.

Sincerely,
Astrid

Awe... I hope Groucho will at least be comfortable and have lots more time with her family. I LOVE her mustache!!

I always worry that there is going to be something I miss with one of the cats, just because there are 8 of them here, and sometimes you just don't know if what they are doing is normal/natural for them, or if you should worry. Plus with the chubby ones, I always worry about weight and heart issues.

Good thoughts and prayers going out for Groucho!

Thanks again everyone.
My friend, Brandi, and her husband took Groucho back to the vet yesterday to have her liver levels checked again.
Bad news. :( Her liver is failing along with the cancer in her pancreas. She is still not eating. Not even food from the vets that she had eaten her first day there. Last I heard from her they were going to force feed her.

Please keep the thoughts and prayers coming for Groucho.

Perhaps at this point they could try Groucho's favourite 'human' food, whatever that may be.

It may not be "healthy", but at this point, her enjoying something might outweigh that.

Candace, thanks for the idea. I told her and said it would be difficult for me since mine do not get human food, ever. So I wouldn't know what was their "favorite". She said - same here.
Yesterday she said her breathing was labored. So it sounds like it's just a matter of time. :(

I am glad that Candace suggested human food, that was what I was going to post. I would forgo the force feeding and go for whatever Groucho would like to eat on HER terms. Quality of life and, above all, comfort and no pain. Nineteen years is a long time to share a weath of joys!!! But, having to say goodbye at any age to a good friend is difficult. We said goodbye to 4 cats in less than a year, hard to bear....where they are now, there is no pain or suffering, and that is what we all want for our cats. Prayers for sweet Groucho and here family at this difficult time...
