He was rescued by Queen Scoopalot in TERRIBLE shape, fixed up, and adopted by catfamily a while ago. Here's his search, for those that have forgotten. http://petoftheday.com/talk/search.php?searchid=2114604&pp=20&page=3 Anybody know how he's doing?

I think Carla (catfamily) posted not too long ago, maybe she'll pop in and give us an update.

I HAVE HEARD THAT BIRDIES DOING WELL PHYSICALLY, BUT IS NOT A FRIENDLY CAT AT ALL, AND HIDES QUITE A BIT.
I SAY THAT A TRIBUTE TO CATFAMILY, THAT THEY GIVE BIRDIE ROOM TO BE HERSELF , AND I AM SURE THAT THEY ARE PRAYING THAT SHE WILL CALM DOWN AND LOVE THEM ONE DAY.
IT TOOK JOHN HANCOCK A WHILE BEFORE HE STOPPED RUNNING AND HSSING BUT HES FINE NOW.

I remember those heart wrenching pictures of him and the horriable shape he was in.. That is one I will NEVER forget. If Jan had not got him when she did the poor little thing would not have made it and he would never have made it without her. I had never heard of or seen a kitten in such bad shape and all those pictures of him were heartbreaking but to see him NOW is amazing!

That web page you posted wouldn't come up for me.. :(

Oh my - I remember that little one - his story was circulating just about the time I joined PT. I'd known Jan from other yahoo groups so knew he was in the best of pawds. I remember looking at his pitiful pictures and reading all that was wrong with him and thinking it will take a miracle for this little Birdie to survive. Reading about that wad of gunk under his tongue almost made me lose it and I've seen some horrible things in my way too many years of rescue.

I heard that he was placed in a great home with another rescue friend of Jan's. Sure hope she's still a PT member - would love to see some new 'after' pictures of that handsome blackie-white boy!

Found a few Birdie pics. I couldn't find any update ones during his recovery, but have pics from when he went to catfamily. :)

When first rescued - QSAL thought he wouldn't even make it:

...we tried to get some baby food into him with an oral syringe, and while opening his mouth I saw a weird thing...a huge glob of who knows what lodged underneath his tongue! It took a bit of work to get it out, and then uncurl his tongue which was headed down his throat. "Bigger than a half dollar coin."

Another pic from rescue day:

Next day:

With a lot of encouragement the baby ate quite well for me. Almost half a jar of baby food mixed with KMR powder, and vitamins with iron etc. I cleaned the excess off his face and discovered he has a small hole under his chin! No idea if it was perforated from inside or outside, but I'm going to be starting him up on antibiotics after he recovers from eating breakfast. He is still seething with fleas so I put several drops of Advantage on him to kill those nasty evil creatures. He's snuggled up on his heating pad now, and I'll let him rest for a few hours and then give him more Sub-Q fluids and antibiotics and another meal. Poor little garbage covered baby boy. It's tragic seeing him.

About a year old:

This is the picture that haunts me today of him. So sad and pitiful looking, unable to use his tongue to clean himself and having to be fed like a bird. I can't tell you how hard I prayed that he would get use of his tongue back. I would call Rie from the boat to get her to get on PT to check on his progress.

Jan had gotten a call about a sick kitten that was loose in a store (If I remember all this right) He had gotten in through a garbage shoot (I think). She managed to catch him and took him home He was a ditry mess and it was discovered that he couldn't eat and had no use of his tongue. He had a puncture under his chin (possiable cat bite) that went all the way through and into his mouth and it was thought this was the problem with his tongue. Jan discovered that "gunk" under his tongue as shown in this thread. I wish the first post about him would come up...It tells the story.

To feed him, food had to be liquid and squirted down the back of his throat like a bird (hence the name Birdie) and it was up to Jan to totally keep him clean since he could not clean himself. A lot of his pictures had his fur stained with food and was just so pitiful.. No one is stretching it when we say he was so close to dying and he would never have made it without her. I sat here and cried when she posted he was trying to use his tongue again. That was the most heart wrenching story of a abondoned kitten I EVER hear and I think og his saga every time I see a abondoned kitten.

I have that picture of him with that towel over his head saved somewhere still since that picture just wrenched out my heart and made me cry like a baby. THAT is the perfect poster picture of what can happen to abondoned kittens. A true horror story.
