Does anyone have a close friend/relative that practices in Canada, estate planning/taxation, specifically, that would be comfortable having a question or two run by them?

Someone at my firm represents a client. This client has established an Ohio trust. There are children, and once both parents die, the children would probably move back to canada. These children are the beneficiaries of the trust.

This would be most likely less than 2 million in assets (which eliminates the federal and Ohio estate tax issues here, presently). The question is whether there are any Canadian laws/taxes that would effect the children receiving trust assets, either lump sum or annually?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know any estate lawyers - but start with this Revenue Canada (IRS) home page and see if you can find the topic. It should be in there SOMEWHERE...

(Don't worry, it's not the French version!:D )

Thanks Betty and Cathy. I am hoping to find someone with a personal connection I can call upon, rather than a cold call. :)

Sorry - I don't personally know anyone as a friend who practices any kind of law. I thought the website would have basic information - and a person there (government staff) would likely have some information.

Here's a few links that might help a bit:

Hope someone turns up. Maybe Slick knows someone? She's in Vancouver.

Sorry, but I don't know anyone personally who could help. I do know a Notary Public but she's not a friend or someone I'm close to. So sorry.
