Woman Stabs Herself During Wiccan Ceremony
Police: Woman Aimed For Ground, Hit Foot Instead

POSTED: 8:19 am EDT July 22, 2008
UPDATED: 8:50 am EDT July 22, 2008

LEBANON, Ind. -- A woman accidentally stabbed herself in the foot with a 36-inch sword while performing a Wiccan good luck ritual at a Lebanon cemetery, police said.

Katherine Gunther, 36, of Lebanon, pierced her left foot with the sword while performing the rite at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday.

Gunther told police she was performing the ceremony to give thanks for a recent run of good luck. The ceremony involves the use of candles, incense and driving swords into the ground during the full moon.

Gunther said she was aiming to put the sword in the ground but hit her foot instead.

Her friends took her to a hospital and she said she's expecting to be released Tuesday.

Police said no charges were filed, but the Wiccans were warned not to trespass in the cemetery after visiting hours.

Makes me wonder. I have several Wiccan friends and they conduct ceremonies on their own property. Wiccan wannabes maybe? Just wonderin'.

Could be. I've never heard of Wiccan ceremonies conducted in a cemetery
before either. I guess anyone can call themselves whatever they
want.

Some people like drama and if they can draw attention to themselves by calling their group Wiccan, then mission accomplished. But it can give genuine Wiccans a bad name.

Or for some classes in Wicca 101 on how to properly use a sword.

Could be that, like me, she just has poor kinesthetic sense. I never even knew what that was, until I was a sophomore in high school. The teacher in my social studies class said it was one of the things they tested for when one tried to get into the flight training in the military. Wanna do a quick check of your own?

Do not do this in front of a mirror. Just hold your arms out to the side, then touch the tips of your index fingers to each other above your head.

Did you get it right? I cannot. Eventually the index finger of one hand will bump into some part of the other hand ... but people with good kinesthetic sense - which means your body knows instinctively where all its parts are - can do it flawlessly every time!

Wow... this was easy. I was expecting to fail it, lol.

If I'm a klutz, how come I could do it???

I have a hard time chewing gum, walking, and thinking at the same time, lol.

Note to self: Do not volunteer to drive in tent pegs on next camping trip...:p
