TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - It's another victory for a Florida-bride-to-be who defied doctors' expectations after being told she had a year to live. That was four years ago.
Courtney Dempsey and her fiancee Gary Courtney have won a $100,000 dream wedding.
The 33-year-old woman and the 37-year-old man were among 40,000 couples who entered US Magazine's wedding contest.
Dempsey says she and her future husband are "thrilled" with the news.
She was diagnosed with late-stage melanoma four years ago. She began dating Courtney and moved in with him after undergoing a double mastectomy.
They're planning a September wedding, and Dempsey plans to take her groom's last name, meaning she'll be Courtney Courtney.
As she puts it: "No one will ever forget my name."
