Just curious, since we have so many picture takers on the board, if anyone else took pix of the fireworks this weekend??

Here's one of my better ones.

That's an excellent picture! I always get crummy pictures, so I didn't even try this year! I am always too busy going "Wow!" to remember to snap the photo. Sigh.

I did but I don't think any came out as good as yours! It is the first time I've tried - in fact, I haven't gone to see fireworks in a number of years. Ususally I stay home with the youngest or the dogs if I know the neighbors are going to be around with lots of firecrackers. This year Dominic is almost 2 so we took him with us. He liked the pretty lights but then more and more people were putting off fire crackers so he got scared. I am at work now but i will try to post some of mine later this evening.

I look forward to seeing your shots posted. I was hoping to have a thread going where everyone could share their shots. Not all fireworks shows are the same and I enjoy seeing some of the different bursts different shows put on.

I have the exact opposite problem. I'm always too busy shooting them to get to actually watch them much until I get the pix home. lol

It isn't easy to take a picture of fireworks!!

It's not too hard really, I just taught my hubby and he shot fireworks for the first time this weekend and his were as good as mine, just a bit of different timing on the bursts.

A sturdy tripod is a MUST for shooting fireworks. And about any camera that will do manual settings and a self timer can take the pix whether film or digital. A few years ago I shot fireworks with a point & shoot digital Canon A40.

Just put the camera on the tripod, set it on manual, set the aperature on F/8 or higher, ISO on 100, 80, 50 (however low the camera can go), shutter speed at about 2-4 seconds, set your self timer (or use a shutter release) and fire away. Probably the hardest part is focusing. On the point and shoots I would wait until one burst went up and focus on that, lock focus and keep shooting, on the DSLR/SLR cameras set the lens to infinity (or in my case eyeball the focus, I don't have an infinity setting on my lenses cuz they're cheap).

Thank you everyone for the compliments. I look forward to seeing some of your shots when I get online later tonight.

We only set off a few this year. Nathan, the dogs, and I watched from the house so we wouldn't get eaten alive by mosquitos. This is the only picture I got of fireworks-

I forgot to take my camera with me. :( I took a couple with my cell phone but they were horrible. My camera is not very good either. But I'd love to get some pix of the fireworks up in Tahoe. They have hearts and smiley faces and boxes and stuff. It's really neat. We will be up there for Labor Day this year and they do fireworks that weekend too. :D

That is an awesome picture!!

I did but since we went to the riverfront there's someone's head in nearly every picture LOL

I got some decent ones, too, except for the head! :P

Not as nice as yours, however :)

I went to the show 1 hour early just so I could park my butt right up against the 'do not cross' line for viewing. I did also go to a second show on Sat. night but I didn't have front row seating so I too have lots of heads in some of the shots of the fireworks that didn't go as high.

We got there five hours early and people were already claiming all the good spots! We didn't have a BAD spot, but it was very, very crowded.

Plus, forgot to mention, we were under a tree, so the low fireworks have a head in them, and the higher one have tree branches and leaves haha

WOW 5 hours early? Guess I've always been lucky or the show is much smaller.

Sounds like you got stuck with a lousy spot for viewing between trees and heads. Hope you have better luck next year.

These two are really good, especially for a first timer!! You should be proud of yourself.

You should have seen the awful results I had the first time I ever shot fireworks, and at that it was with film so it was a week before I could see how badly I blew the shots and had to pay money for the paper they wasted on printing them. LOL

Yes, thousands upon thousands of people attend this festival every year, it's three or four days long and the crowds are HUMONGOUS the entire time every year!

Yup the show I attended was certainly smaller. No festival just the fireworks. I have no clue how many people attended but it took an hour to get out of the parking area and onto the main street and I was parked 3 rows in from the exit.

We didn't go into the park where the fireworks were. It is just too crowded and crazy. A lot of people just find parking spots nearby and watch from their cars. So that's what we did. Sometimes the country club puts on a better show than the city so sometimes we go to the park and sit on blankets there and watch. Just don't like being caught in traffic for long periods of time with small and tired children in the car!

Yup took us about 45 minutes just to leave the parkinglot and another 30 or 45 minutes to drive home because people would be leaving the festival and of course the sidewalk went across the entrance to the parkinglot, so we had to wait for EVERYONE to leave before the cops would let cars leave. We were parked in the first parkinglot, within the first couple of spaces too.
