I must be outta my ever loving mind. I got a call about a woman who has gone to a shelter and had to leave her 2 year old kitty behind in what COULD be an unsafe environment.

Paula and "Baby" took up residence with a guy who has a major drinking problem and gets nasty when he drinks. He forces himself in Paula's room at night when she's asleep. One night he came in drunker than a skunk and began tossing all he stuff out in the middle of the night. Paula had to take refuge in a women's shelter because she lost her job and had nowhere to go. Unfortunately, the shelter doesn't take in pets (that sucks).

It'll be cramped for a little while, but this WILL have a happy ending. I'll get some pictures of him once he's here and settled.

Thank you for rescuing this cat from being left in what could be an abusive situation. I'm glad the woman is out of there and I hope she is able to find a place of her own in the near future so she and her cat can start over.

As usual, kudos to you, Donna. The woman took the right steps; she's out of an abusive situation and her beloved kitty is well cared for and couldn't be in better hands. You're right, this will have a happy ending and you play a large part in it. Way to go, girl! :)

This is just getting better and better!! I was at work yesterday talking about her and "Baby". One of the front managers, who lives in Canterbury in a farmhouse, piped up and offered Baby her spare bedroom. Private, big window to sit in with his favorite toys, bed, etc, for as long as it takes. I would've loved to have fostered Baby, but I know that he'll be better off at Johanna's house till Paula can find a place to live. I'll be pickin up Baby tomorrow on my day off and making the transfer with Johanna. Oh, and to show you how much of an animal lover Johanna is, she's involved in Greyhound Rescue and has 8 of her own Greyhounds. How could I not trust her??? I will be forever greatful to her for her offer.

I told Paula that when we go to pick Baby up, it's probably best to have a police escort, as who KNOWS what this pig is capable of.

At least now I know they'll both be safe from this jerk.

Don't worry. You are not out of your mind. I think that we would all try to do the same if we can. I know I would. Great job!!

I think pets are more abused in situations like that than the person is, especially if it is left behind.. I hope they both have a better life somewhere else! God bless you for stepping up and helping out!

I spoke with Paula. The plan is to meet at the house at 7 pm and then call the police for an escort, if he's home. If he isn't home, we'll wait for him then call for the escort.

Baby will be staying with me in my bathroom. Paula asked me if I could keep him with me because she may be getting a place to live soon and Canterbury is quite far for her to visit him.

He looks exactly like my RB Casey. He's a very sweet cat, but right now he's confused and stressed out. On the way to my house, Paula was holding him, crying her eyes out. We managed to get all her stuff out of the house and brought it to the shelter.

I told her he'd be fine in my bathroom, with a window, food, water and litterbox. I also told her she could call me anytime and visit whenever she wanted. I invited her to stay on my futon anytime she wanted to get away, and see Baby.

I'm very relieved that it's all over with and both Paula and Baby are now safe.

*SIGH*

I'm a little worried about Baby. He hasn't eaten or used the litterbox. I believe he's dehydrated. So, I've been pumping water into him via his mouth with a syringe. He's drinking it. I give him a full syringe (3 cc's) twice every hour. Since I started last night, his eyes are much brighter and he seems to be perking up.

I know he misses Paula desperately. I just wish I had more room for him. He sits in the windowsill and sleeps, looks at the birds. But he's still not eating. I spoke with my vet and he said it's gonna take time. It's only been 24 hours. She said I'm doing the right thing by pumping the water into him so he stays hydrated and going in there and talking to him and giving him the loving he missed.

I also have a hunch that this pig of man Paula rented from abused this poor baby. There's something about when I pet him and go near his bum. He tenses right up. I don't even think he fed him. Paula said the guy's girlfriend is a vet tech so she's praying that SHE fed him. No one knows for sure.

Prayers are needed for Baby.

Seems like every day there's another horror story about our poor sweet kitties. We'll be sure to keep the prayers going up for Baby and for you, Donna.

Johh,

Thanks. He's doing MUCH better. I put my cats in my room and opened the bathroom door. He was too afraid to come out.

He's eating great (loves Fancy Feast Beef with gravy) and Purina One Cat Chow and is using the litterbox. Paula calls for updates.

I'm falling in love with him, as he is the SPITTING IMAGE of my Rainbow Casey and has the sweetest temperment.
