Yep... another Betta. I've got quite the hobby now. I found this girl at Petsmart today. She was too cool to pass up. She is a double ray crowntail.

Her name is Mrs. Potts. I had hoped to house her with Belle but they're both a bit too aggressive for me to feel safe doing that. :( Oh well, there goes my hopes for having a sorority tank!

Mrs. Potts is very pretty. Sorry you can't put her and Belle together. I've had some females together and some that would try to kill each other. ;)

She is pretty. The ONLY way to house female bettas together is if you have at least 4-6 of them in a 10 gallon tank.

congratulations! she is gorgeous.

they only sell veiltails at my local petshop, and the girls have dull colours, unlike Belle and Mrs Potts.

I kept two females in a two gallon tank for a few years until one of them died. I never saw them fight.

Not necessarily true. It depends on the specific Bettas. Several of people I know have been able to house 2-3 Bettas happily.

very pretty lady you´ve got there.... I might get my tank up again and get a few :D Bettas are soooooo addictive.....

Yes sometimes it works out with 2 but usually 2 will rip each other apart. The best way is to have at least four to spread out the aggression. Also the tank needs to have lots and lots of hiding places for them to get away from each other if needed.

Just making sure. :) I haven't tried a sorority myself yet but i'm going to try one soon. I have 2 females now and I'm getting 2 more in the mail next week so I think I will try it out with them.

I would never attempt less then four females together. I had 8 girls together very well in a well planted 20 gallon. Only two are left now but I am getting guppies soon =)

Your girlie is pretty!

I thought instead of making a thread each time I add a new fish, I'd just update this thread.

Okay, I started with two Bettas about 2 months ago. Now, some how, I am up to eleven fish all together.

6 male Bettas, 3 female Bettas, and two Danios who live with Belle, one of my females. She is a submissive girl and is doing just fine with them. Just don't like other female Bettas. :) Their names will be Lefou & Lumiere, although I can't really tell them apart!

I picked the two Danios up today along with a new female who will be named Babette (following the theme.)

Here's Babette; She is living in a tank with Mrs. Potts with a seperator.

Mufasa is VERY interested in this tank since there's more activity from the Danios. He's always checked Belle out, but he's even more interested now.

Cleaning isn't too bad - I have 2 five gallon tanks with filters and a 2.5 gallon tank with a filter - two 4(?) gallon tanks without filters. Those rarely need to be cleaned.

The others are in 1.5 (?) gallon tanks which I clean weekly. I take all of the fish out and they're held in their betta cups while cleaning. Dump all of the tanks out together, clean the rocks and plants together, clean the tanks, and then reassemble them all. Quick and easy. :)

? is because I'm not for sure how large they are - they are plastic critter keepers.

I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking to receive. Kind of an odd question to ask a pet owner, IMO. What's so special about cats? Dogs? Birds? Rabbits? Rats? :p

Like all fish, they are peaceful to look at plus the added beauty. They have a grace about them when they swim, with their long colorful fins following. They aren't like most fish and have such charactor.

Short and sweet, they just are and I guess a non-Betta owner wouldn't understand. ;)

Oo la la! Monsieur D'Arque is a very distinguished Betta boy. : ) I love the outline around his scales... if he were yellow, that would be called "pineapple", but I haven't seen it on an orange. You really have an eye for stunning Bettas.

LOLs @ your sig! It's perfect. You are pretty much an official member of Betta Adicts Anonymous.

There once was a girl in Florida, who decided she wanted a fish,
She went out to her petstore to fullfill her wish.
She fell so in love with the first few, she had to have some more,
Now she has so many fish tanks, she can't even open her door.

So far... so good. I really hope this works out. They've been together for over a hour now and seem to be doing really well.

Love the sorority so far! Are you going to add any more (I mean I know you will get more but will you add more?) :P If so you will need to becareful as the current ones will claim territories and it may make it hard for any new girls. Re-arranging works best to solve it. But i love your tank!

I love your signiture to!! =)

Yep, I've been reading about sororities for a while now. When I add more, I plan to add taller plants as well and a few more dithering fish. :)

My four girls have been so good so far - I woke them up this morning and each one swam to the front from their own little corners of the tank. Such good girls. :D

Okay, I'm going to drive you guys nutso with photos as I'm just SO excited about them getting along so well.

Here's some photos I took this morning.

Belle and Babette swimming away from me. Babette is my most passive female. She allows the others to chase her and hasn't chased anyone else back yet.

They are all beautiful. I'm glad the sorority is working out for you! For the other girl you could get one of these. http://www.aquariumguys.com/breedingtrap1.html
You could put her inside it inside the tank so everyone can see her and get used to her and then release her after a couple of days.

Christmas_Hamster
04-27-2008, 04:58 PM
I have the same breeder I used it for my platy fry way back when but it doesn't let in any air for them to breath from and if you leave the lid off it sinks easily. :/ but there are other breeder traps that have an open surface that would work.

And I just love your girls! So precious!!

AAAAANNNDDD now I want to redecorate my tank...I shall has to make plans. :D

I added two new girls to the sorority! I also got 4 more danios.

She is tiny. I think she is VERY young.

She and the other blue girl seem to be going for alpha. I'll have to keep my eye on those two.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a194/frailwit/Fish/sororgirls2.jpg

I added a couple more plants and a floating log:

Those traps when I used them had air at the top it all depends on how you place them. The open topped ones allow the fish to jump out. Your white girl looks suspiciously like a plakat male. Does she have an oviposter?

You really have me wondering now. Something seemed off about "her" to me. The ventrals are long compared to what I'm used to. I can't see a oviposter but then again he/she is so white it's hard to tell. I can't see oviposters on all of my females anyhow.

Another thing that gets me is the fact that he/she is SO docile. I've put him/her in a tank with one of my males and it didn't bother he/she. Even when the other mail was swimming around ferociously flaring.

So.. either I've got a silly looking female or a very, very docile male.

3muttsandaboston
04-27-2008, 09:20 PM
lol I guess only time will tell. Yeah it was the long ventrals and fins that kind of made me think male. Also females usually have more rounded stomachs. On a forum I am a member of members have accidently had 2 male plakats in tanks for a few months before they realize it.

04-28-2008, 01:33 AM
Stunning!! Your females are very pretty, all of the females in our pets stores are not as colorful as yours.

I have been dying to do a female tank for a long time now, but I'm to scared to try. :o

For all you betta lovers, do your females have a different personality then males? (more social or shy with people, swim more?)

Christmas_Hamster
04-28-2008, 04:43 PM
Between males and females it doesn't matter each betta has their own personality but females are little pigs and love to eat so they seem to like to say 'hi' more so they can beg for food, lol.

My female, Neptune, had really long fins for a female but she was definatly girl, even longer then your white girls finnage. Your white girl looks to slim to be male she looks really feminin I guess hehe. Blowing any nests for you? Thats another sign, hehe.

Oh and I love the tanks! Do you have a black background on it? It looks nice. And congrats on the girlies!

Kfamr
04-28-2008, 07:31 PM
It's actually against my wall, which is a dark, dark purple.

I'm almost 100% sure Feather is female now - I finally got to see her flare and it's a girly flare. She almost never flares even when the other fish do - this time she flared at me! Silly girl.

Here's some photos I took today
