Sophie has a vet appt. on Tuesday afternoon (earliest I could get her in). Unfortunately this time it's more than just a routine manicure. Last night, I found a lump (about the size of a ping-pong ball) hiding behind her "armpit." She acts fine, eats good, and looks great but I'm still terrified, esp. since this is her first time to see the vet here (for something other than a manicure).

I have a copy of her old vet records, a copy of drugs that are ok for rabbits, and a biz. card from my old vet to take in. When it comes to dogs/cats I have complete trust in this vet (as he saved Clarice's life one time)--I just hope his "magic" extends to rabbits.

I hope & pray this lump is nothing serious.

oh Dear Tonya and Ms. Sophie Bunny,
delilah and i will say a prayer for you both...glad that the lump doesn't seem to hurt her so far...this is a good sign!!!!

you know you could call your old vet(the one whos' card that you have) and have his office fax a copy of Ms.Sophie Bunnies' records to new vet....
at least :
a) the vet will have all records in front of him, when he examines her
B) he may actually have time to familiarize himself (or his assistant) with the records,so he knows more on sophie bunny and won't waste time on other things
c) you won't get charged for them double touching things like vaccines, worming, etc. that might have been done 2 months ago...

Good Luck Dear Tonya,
Keep us updated...we'll be waiting to hear

I am so very sorry to hear about this problem and will keep you and Ms Sophie in my prayers!!! I hate it when I feel helpless so I understand.

Something to keep in mind, is that if the news is bad or you don't like what you hear, DO find another rabbit-specialist vet and get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion. While rabbit-specialist vets are rarer than hens teeth, I have found that they do not always agree on diagnosis and/or treatments.

Why? Some vets continue to stay on top of bunny health issues and go to bunny health conferences while others end their education at graduation. A consideration would be to take Sophie to a well-known vet school in your state.... for example here in Mich. Michigan State University has an excellent vet program and the instructors know all of the latest treatments and procedures. We have found it worth the time, money and effort.

I'm wondering if maybe Sophie has a abcess. They can sometimes be removed or drained and in other instances it's better to do nothing...depends on the site. We have several buns at the sanctuary that have been living with those things for years and they are otherwise healthy.

I do wish you the best of good luck. Casey sez "HEY!" to Ms. Sophie and sends her a nose twitch and her vey best thoughts. :)

Tonya, I can only imagine how very very worried you are about Sophie. I would be too!

My brother has an older German Shepherd. When I was at their home several months ago, I noticed these two lumps on his side. The next time I went to their home the lumps were now the size of golf balls. However "Jake" was acting just fine, eating, playing, all the usual stuff.

My brother took Jake in to the vet to have them removed and they turned out to be absolutely NOTHING! In the meantime, all of us thought the worst and worried ourselves sick.

I am going to pray real hard that this will be the outcome for Sophie too! The lump will be NOTHING!

Hugs from Gini and Rascal

Extra special prayers are on the way for Miz Sophie and you too, Tonya. The boys have their paws and tails all crossed for you too. Leonardo had a lump come up under one of his front armpits once. Scared me to death. His went away. Near as we (the vet) could figure, it was a reaction to the feline leukemia shot. The lump took quite a while to go away. It was so weird because his shot was on the back of his neck and the lump came up under his armpit. Maybe some extra parsley would make her feel a 'little' better until her visit with the white coats.
I love her blueberry smile in her picture, by the way.

Sophie Bunz...you are truly much too special to have anything bad happen to you. Please be OK and please tell your mom to tell us when the *good* news comes back from the white coats. I'll be waiting to hear about the results, as will everyone, I am sure. That Sophie Bunz is one special, adorable girl. Take care Tonya, and try to remain positive. I know it's easier said then done, though. Sending good thoughts your way.

Sophie, we're praying that the lump is nothing bad. Killian has had a few lumps removed (one quite large) and they were all benign. We are praying that it will be the same for you. Killi and Shi have their paws crossed for their little bunny friend. I will say prayers.

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes! They mean alot to me.

I've been worryin' myself sick over it. Sophie acts absolutely fine which is a relief but is also kinda scary. Since bunnies are prey animals, they tend to hide their illnesses (any sign of weakness would be an instant death in the wild).

Yesterday, we went to do some show & tell/pet therapy in mom's preschool class (she has the kids who are delayed in learning: speech impediments, physical deformities, etc.) When that was over, Soph and I came home, said some prayers, and took a nap. When mom got home, she came in to check on us. She "accidentally" woke Sophie up & Sophie attacked her (nipped & headbutted Mom's ankles/pants legs). ("Grammawz how darez youz interuppiez my beautious sleepz?!") So she *IS* feeling her normal spunky self.

The lumps remind me of the "fatty tumors/cysts" that my cockerspaniel had. I hope that is what they are.

I'm comtimplating the 5hr drive back to her old vet. I don't know that she could see us any earlier than what this vet could, though. Waiting is so hard...

Thank you again!

Oh no, not our little Sophie bunster girl...:( I know how worried you must be Tonya. But on a hopeful note, the majority of large, fast growing growths are benign fatty tumors of cysts. Me and all the furry ones here will be praying with all of our paw power that this dearest, most precious little one will get an encouraging report at the vets. We love you Sophie! And you too, of course Tonya. Love and hugs to our dear friends, Sandra and the Fur Family.

Oh no, Sophie, not you. The Princess can't be having no lumpy bumpies to mar the most perfect of bunny bodies. And now the Bestest Mommy has her heart just aching with worry. That won't do either. The Bunny and the Mommy have to get back to normal. They have so much work to do making other peoples happy. Pet Talkers unite with Prayer Power for one of our favorite furry friends, the most beautiful Sophie, to be Okie Dokie and for the dark cloud of worry to vanish over the Bestest Mommy's head.

Miss Hoppy says to bite anyone you can at the white-coats, they're all evil, but I don't think you should listen to that advice, Sophie! I hope it's just one of those scary-looking butbenign fatty cysts, and we don't blame you for being cranky with Grandma - doesn't she know "let sleeping dogs and bunnies lie?" :)

Billie - congratulations on your first taste of parsley! Miss Hoppy loves loves loves her parsley, and sometimes at "raisin time" she's got parsley-breath! The envy of all, are those sweet breathed bunnies!

Sophie, we are thinking about you, big time, at our house!!! And do you know what? We've been having to buy parsley too!!! We know you would like it here because we have parsley in our refrigerator, but guess who it is for??? The Caterpillars that are going to be Butterflies!!! Yes, we have 5 caterpillars that hatched from eggs, in an aquarium in our carport. We are raising butterflies!!! Our grandma brought them to us, so Helen could raise butterflies, but we had no idea that parsley was their food of choice!!

We hope you get lots of parsley tomorrow, after your visit to the white coats. After all, you are the Princess of Parsley!!! :D :D We hope that the white coats will relieve your mom and you, and that the lumpies are nothing to worry about.

Right now she's eatin' hay in her cage (she just had a nice round of "toss the litterpan & make a mess cause Mom just vaccumed." lol)

I'm going to apologize upfront--I've had to skim over most of the new replies--I'm about to lose it. I know they are soo filled with LOVE but I've got to stay "together" until after the interview.... after the interview, I'm printing them out and having a crying fest! lol

SOPHIE IS OK!!!!

*sigh* of relief.... A HUGE--ENORMOUS sigh of relief!!

He doesn't really know what they are but is almost 100% sure that it's nothing to be worried about. Because the lumps are about the same size/length/shape/position, he feels that it is some sort of fat deposit--probably not the fatty tumors but something along that line. He said b/c she is "normal" in her other habits, he really didn't see any reason to put her through the stress of a biopsy, etc.

The vet & vet tech had a good laugh--everytime he/they tried to handle her, she'd escape, run over to me, put her paws on my shoulder, & burry her face in my neck. The vet said, "Well, we know who HER owner is, don't we?!" lol

I'm OVERJOYED that he thinks it's nothing to be worried about, but at the same time, I think I'd feel better if I could "feel" them on another rabbit. One of mom's schoolkids lives on a farm w/ (meat) rabbits---she's going to ask if they have any that are about Soph's age & if it'd be ok for us (mom and myself) to pay a visit. (I don't know really know how I feel about going to see :( *meat*:( rabbits, but....)

THANK YOU for your prayers and well wishes!!!! They helped more than you could ever imagine!

Now, I've got change & run off to an interview...

Man guys, I don't even know exactly where to begin...

First and foremost, thank you all for your lovely responses. They mean so much to me & were of great help during this stressful time. Ya'll really went overboard and I appreciate it so much! When helping others, we tend to always say, "Oh it was nothing," but it IS something...you just never realize it until you are on the receiving end.

I just snapped a photo of what could be a leading contender for the world's most content bunster. At the time I write this, imagestation is down. I hope that I've made the file small enough for it to upload onto PT. If not, hopefully imagestation will be back up in the morning.

Thank you all once again.

Love always,
Tonya & Sophie Bunnie, "The Princess of Parsley"

This was the first thread I rushed to see this morning. Then I cried, I was so happy to get good news, what an enormous relief this is! Tonya, I'm sure you are extremely happy! I'm so glad 'our' bunster is healthy, and she can continue now to entertain you (and us too). I love that pic you posted, it's cute!!!
Welldone Sophie, glad you are okay!
Here's some cyber hugs and kisses to you both!

I'm sooooo glad to hear everything is well with Miz Sophie! Someone said it before, but I think here at Pet Talk we have a direct link to god, and he takes care:)
I hope things went well for you at your interview Tonya!
BTW....Sophie looks so content in that pic you posted, give her a big smooch for me (and maybe a little extra parsley, just for being such a great bunny)!!!

Soph wants to know if she can have a double?! lol

How is poor Casey? Is the infection gone--did you decide to keep her?

Sophie can have anything she wants!!!!!

Yes, I've kept Casey and the results are mixed about her eye.
Her left eye gets a periodic infection and that has cleared up.
However the right eye has an abcess in one of the eye lids and the vet says nothing can be done about it, except to clean it twice a day and give her antibotics. She's such a nice bunny and a very old one as well...I want her to live out her life as comfortable as we can make it and be loved as much as possible.
I think she may miss her firends at the sanctuary but I do let her run around with my kids so she's not shut off from companionship.
Because of the abcess and having to clean it so often (and it IS gross) she's taken to staying in my lap after we get done for as much as 45minutes at a time....so we talk and have a bunny massage and the time flies by. She really is a great girl and I'm hoping she'll be around for quite a while.

Thanks for asking about her, I know my reply was kinda long but she is so special! ;)

I'm so glad to hear that Miz Sophie is going to be fine. I was thinking about her yesterday but I had a 12 hour day at work and wasn't able to check in at Pet Talk to find out her results. I guess all the praying that the Pet Talkers did must have helped. Now you stay healthy for your Mommy Miz Sophie. Please don't worry her any more. I hope your interview went well too Tonya. :)

I am very sorry to hear about your rabbit. I hope it turns out to be non-cancerous! I have a rat,Oreo, and she developed a huge tumor, the size of a tangerene, right on her butt- between her legs. She is still happy, zippy, eating, tinkling, poopooing etc. We would have it removed but it would cost over $200.00- and she could have a hard recovery/die from all the drugs. So we said forget it. If it gets way really bad, then me might. Anyhow, I hope your rabbit will be ok!
