BraveHeart gave me a wonderful surprize this morning, he ate EVERYTHING I left him over night!

To clarify, this is what we've been doing.......

In the morning when I feed my cats their first meal (of 2) I go to BraveHeart's room, give him his medicines, and offer him some food.

Then, he gets to spend the entire day out with my cats (and us, when we are home). He enjoys this greatly, but I do not leave food out for my cats, so he can't eat again until the evening feeding.

In the evening (maybe about 7pm) I feed my cats their 2nd meal of the day. At this time I take BraveHeart back to his room, give his medications and sub-q fluids, and offer him some more food.

I have been hoping I could get him to eat a FULL meal each time, like my own cats do. So far, no. Which is the reason I keep him in his room, alone, over night. I keep food down for him. And he usually eats some.

But this morning, when I opened his door, I was greeted not only by a sweet little boy, but by 2 EMPTY dishes!!!! One has his canned food which I now mix with turkey (he also prefers me to cover it with water). The other dish was dry food. A new food I found, and he obviously likes! Pet Promise (http://www.petpromiseinc.com/). Nice small kibble, and a seemingly great food all around.

So hopefully this boy will put on some weight in the next week (he gets blood tests and weighed next Monday)

I hope he sticks with this food for some time. :D
With Filou I have to change all the time- there is one food he loves and two weeks later he doesn't like it any more. He may come back to it - or not. I think I know all types of food on the market here
Way to go Braveheart!

I went to their website and you can do a search on where to buy it. In my area Petco, Whole Foods and a few other places carry it. Here's the link again:Pet Promise (http://www.petpromiseinc.com/products.htm).

I went to the website, also. Said the Petco's in the area have it. I, on the other hand, found it at Pet Supplies Plus.

He seems to like the canned version, too (bought some today and tried it.)

I'll let you know if he cleans his dishes again, tomorrow. I hope so ;)

BraveHeart did fairly well over last night. Ate ALL the canned food and about half of the amount of dry he had eaten last night. (can't expect miracles ALL the time, right?)

Heavens, Jen! Even ALL the canned food is a miracle compared to last week! :D

Sounds like a great balance for him....socializing, working up an appetite, getting lots of hoomin love - and even having his own pet hoomin, Charlie! ;)

Maybe his tests won't be really different this week, but next week, look out! :)

Please hug that lovely woolly boy for me.

Jen, how is BraveHeart's eating going? Is he still interested in wet food? Please keep eating, sweet BraveHeart ... I want you to gain some ounces, please.

jenluckenbach
04-09-2008, 07:55 PM
He has been finishig all the wet food I leave him overnight. And I have been trying to leave a little more each night. It has been about 3/4 of a can. Then I add a minced up slice of turkey. I add a pinch or two of his dry food. They cover it with water and mix. That's the way he likes it. When he gets all the liquid off, I often re-wet it for him to finish.

I believe the boy may actually have put a millimeter of fat on his ribs and hip bones. Yes, he still feels quite bony, but it seems to have just a slight "cushion". WOO HOOOOOOO

This is great news!! Maybe his stomach had shrunk a bit when he wasn't eating before and then it didn't take much for him to feel full. But now that he finally had that big meal last week, maybe his stomach has gotten bigger and needs bigger meals!! :) I'm so glad he's enjoying his homemade 'stew'!Thanks for the update!

Way to go!! Chow down, little boy!

Hmm, maybe Emeraldgreen is right; his little tummy probably shrunk and it takes a bit of coaxing to get it back to normal.

Yummy stew!! :D

Well, the eating paid off. He gained about 10 ounces in the last 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, he did throw up on the way home from the vet's today. :( But he has not been vomitting much at all, so we won't worry too much. Maybe he ate too much before the car ride, or something.

Waiting for the test results to be back tomorrow. **corsses fingers**

He's like a puppy.....follows you around.

He will be spending his first NIGHT down stairs, tonight. He ate well enough that I feel he won't need the extra food he migt eat during the night (the reason I placed him in his own room at night).

The new foster will be taking over his room for a while.

That's a good boy Braveheart. You keep on eating well.
I'm sorry that you had a little upset tummy from the car ride. I hope you feel better now.

Fingers and toes crossed here along with prayers for good results on your tests.
