I don't usually post in this area, since my child is a cat, but I had to share this AWFUL story that was in our local paper today. I live in Knoxville, TN, and this happened about 40 miles from where I'm located. It amazes me at the stupidity of people! :mad:
Charge filed against owner of St. Bernard who chewed leg off

MADISONVILLE - An animal cruelty charge has been filed against the owner of a St. Bernard dog who apparently chewed one of her own legs off after becoming entangled in a wire, authorities said today.
No court date has been set for Adolfo Lopez, owner of the 90-pound dog named "Panda."
A tip from a citizen led a deputy sheriff and two employees of the Monroe County Animal Shelter to Lopez's home. Around a dog lot, they found a wire where Panda may have become entangled, according to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office report.
Panda was confiscated and taken to a veterinarian. The stump of her leg was amputated because it was infected and she was in pain.
Once Panda has fully recovered, she is to be turned over to the Smoky Mountain St. Bernard Rescue organization, which will search for a new home for her.
Donations to help defray the costs of her treatment, estimated to be around $1,000, may be made to the Monroe County Animal Shelter, 170 Kefauver Lane, Madisonville, TN 37354.
