My topic is "nutritional needs and requirements for a weaning bitch" BUT all the information I'm finding talks about the puppies' requirements, and mentions nothing about the mother. I did find two paragraphs in my textbook about how you should fast them for 24 hours to decrease milk production and etc but I'm just having a hard time finding anything other than that :(

Thank you!

I don't have any first hand knowledge. Did a google search and found af ew items, which may or may not help. I hope they DO help!

One article (which I did NOT list below) indicated weaning is a one day thing. Er, I've never had a dog have pups, but somehow that didn't sound right!

Includes a bibliography at the end of the article

Weaning
By five weeks after birth, most puppies are showing an interest in their mother’s food. Gradually, the puppies will begin eating more solid food and nursing less. At the same time, the nursing mother will usually begin eating less. Most puppies are completely weaned around 8 weeks after birth. By this time, the mother’s energy requirement is back to normal, and she should be eating her normal pre-pregnancy diet.

I´ve had puppies... but I´ve never followed the fasting rule I just gradually decrease food intake a bit so no more milk is coming in...and it´s a gradual thing puppies set their own pace....

Thanks so much, guys. I think I'm gonna call my vet tomorrow and ask what he recommends. I did find another website that had a sentence or two blurb on this, but it's just so hard to find information. Or enough information to fill a fifteen minute presentation, anyway. Any ideas? :(
