("The Mudline", below the comic strip, LHS)

"I must say, I'm a little envious. If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed. It must be exciting for you...in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger."
-- George W. Bush, during a video conference with military briefers in Afghanistan

Well, gosh, gee, he had his chance to do that, in Vietnam, but somehow he managed to blow off that opportunity..

And I wonder why his daughters (just the right age!) haven't signed up for this exciting, romantic, danger-defying experience, as I'm sure he has urged them to do.

I heard that statement quoted on "Air America" (liberal talk radio) yesterday while driving. I almost sprayed my coffee all over the inside of the windshield. I thought at first they'd made it up as a satirical jab at Bush.. but then I realized he actually had said that, to actual real military people.

Speaking of Doonesbury, our local paper wouldn't put the comic in the paper this past week because it was controvesial. I wonder if this is what they eliminated.

Actually, Gary Trudeau, the artist, was on holiday. They may have blanked it because it was repeats?

Click here and go to 'previous date' (tiny blue printing above the right edge of the strip), and see what you missed! :)

That was before I'd discovered the wonders of the Dog House!

I'd seen some of those before, but some are new to me. There have been so many! Bush has long been notorious for statements in which he trips over his own wording.

But he expressed himself quite well in this new one. It's the thought expressed that is so mind-boggling! I wish they'd given a date and location for it, so I could spread it around further.

His latest "Bushism" occurred Friday when on a videoconference.

If you click the link, you will see this is dated March 15 - so it seems it was Friday the 14th for this latest Bushism.

Here's a press release on the teleconference from the White House site, dated March 13.
