I just wanted to pass on this information in case there is anyone that can help.

Yesterday there was a bust of a local puppy mill, breeders selling "teacup" chihuahuas and other small breeds. They found 700 (yes, that's seven hundred dogs in the house--and 80 parrots). Mostly chihuahuas, also some other toy breeds. 100 went to the Arizona Chihuahua Rescue organization, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona is trying to handle the other 600.

The Humane Society is really going to be needing tons of donations, food, x-pens, money for spaying and neutering, etc. They'll also be looking for adoptive parents for all of these dogs in need of homes, breeding adults, puppies, old dogs, young dogs, every color dog.

Their website is here:

The news story is front page here:

....and, well, everywhere, including world news sources.

CHIHUAHUAS. IN NEED OF HOMES. And parrots, too. Good people of Tucson, please. Come to their rescue.

Just made a donation. Poor pups, I hope they can get them all into safe and loving homes.

Laura, since you live in the area, would you please keep us updated on these dogs, and what decisions are made about adopting them, and what other resources they are going to need. Thanks.

Thank you for donating! I know they really appreciate it. KVOA held a telethon trying to raise money for these pups. I hope all these little guys are able to find great homes. I heard that the line to adopt one of these dogs is at around a 4-5 hour wait time! I know the humane society does a good job of screening homes, but I worry that with so many dogs and chihuahuas being in such high demand that they might not have to time to screen as well as they normally would.

I am so happy to hear the good news. :) Adopting out 100 dogs per
day was a record for that organization. I hope they can continue to treat
all the ones with injuries, so that they can have homes too.

It is nice to hear that all of the dogs that were presently adoptable found new homes. I hope, and believe, that your community will continue to rally around these poor little animals and find caring homes for the sick, injured and aged animals as they become strong enough to go to new homes.
