Last week a 17 year old boy was shot to death on the streets of Lost Angeles. He was confronted by some slug, since arrested for the crime, who was stupid gang banger-he was one day out of jail for an assault with a deadly weapon crime.

The kid that was shot was a star football player, good student and had just received two offers from universities to play ball for them. Did I mention he was awarded the "Best Player Award" in the city of L.A. in 2007?

His mother was serving in Iraq and came home to bury her son.

----------------------

During the services today a reporter interviewed a Colonel from the Army who attended the service.

He didn't know the family, but he said that he felt an obligation to attend to show his support for the mother. He also had a son who was in the Lost Angeles Unified School District system.

He said that he was concerned about his son's safety while he attended classes in the area-he told the reporter that he had nightmares about what might happen to him while he attended school.

Yep, there are AHs that capture the media's attention by mistreating animals - But this gentleman will not get any mention, outside of the local media, for taking the time to show his support for another soldier.

Waking up, putting your uniform on and attending a funeral service for someone you do not know is a measure of what kind of people we have in the service.

We support our troops, but we can never know how they support each other,
or how they support us.
