The other morning I looked out my font window and saw these weird tracks.
I know they're from a cat, but the cat was dragging something.
Often I have cat tracks in my yard, in this same place. The cat walks past the front of my house, then jumps over my neighbors fence I assume.
Well this morning the cat walked past my house, to my neighbors house like it normally does, but once it got to the fence where I assume he jumps over it dropped what ever it was it was dragging, walked around a little bit, then walked back in front of my house again.
(the reason there are 2 sets of these weird tracks, one comming and one going)
It's been bothering me SO bad.
My first thought was that it was hurt and maybe it was dragging one of it's legs, but you can see 4 paw prints.

Anyone have any ideas?
I did see a fresh set of cat tracks this morning and they were normal (straight in a line)
I just wanted to see what some of you thought it could have been dragging?

Do you think it was just dinner?

(keep in mind people, that is question is coming from a Dog person! :o )

Whatever it was made a wide and flat track... this pic shows it the best I think.

but once it got to the fence where I assume he jumps over it dropped what ever it was it was dragging,
So did you walk over and look, if there was anything about?

I don't think a kitten would leave a track like that, but maybe. More likely it was dinner: fresh-kill. A mouse or vole, a bird perhaps. Could have been nesting material.

Interesting puzzle!

I would say too a bird... perhaps as he couldnīt go over the fence with it he went back to take another route......JMO

as for being flat tracks it could well be wings... but I think it would be a big bird so it would be dragging it as a small one could easily be carried...

Very interesting tracks. But one thing I did notice, is that there is no blood spots. Should'nt there be at least a few visible?

Freedom - I could see clearly that the cat stopped, dropped what ever it had, then walked around a little bit towards the fence, then picked it back up and walked back in front of my house. No marks in the snow helped me figure out what it was.
I first thought about a kitten also, but figured that the cat would not be dragging their kitten in the snow.

catmandu- There are tons of little critters around my house for cats to catch for dinner.

Abby&Buddy'sMom- I followed the tracks as far as I could and I never saw blood. (I was first looking for blood thinking it was a hurt kitty)

Thank you all for your input, I'm sure it's nothing to loose sleep over, it's just one of those things that bother you and will keep bothering you till you figure it out!

No blood could mean that the cat had found a discarded packet of bologna or something...

Given the time of year it is, I would guess it's a mamma kitty relocating her kittens. I've seen cats carry the kittens and they don't always get the hineys up all the way, and it would explain a lack of blood spots. Since cats have more than one kitten it would account for there being more than one set of tracks.

Just my best guess.
