REMEMBERING OUR LOST CANINE HEROES

Service and burials planned at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Pet Cemetery

Palm Harbor, FL – Two canine officers retired from duty with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will be laid to rest at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Pet Cemetery on Tuesday, February 26th. The service begins at 4 P.M. and will include the burial of two canine officers retired from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. The burials will be part of a memorial service to honor 2 retired canine officers buried in a Heroes Garden there last year.

Curlew Hills President and CEO Keenan Knopke says it’s a service the facility will continue to offer for former law enforcement canine officers at no charge.

“It’s a small token of our appreciation for what these officers and canines do for this community,” Knopke says.

“To listen to the stories of how these animals protected their human partners is just amazing. These dogs are heroes and as far as we’re concerned, they need to be remembered by the community.”

The Heroes Garden is part of more than half an acre devoted to animals at Curlew Hills. The facility has provided human burial and cremation options for 30 years and recognizes the need for a pet cemetery. In August of 2006, Curlew Hills devoted part of the property to animals with spots for up to 1,500 animals.

Burial options include urns and niches for pet cremated remains, as well as caskets and graves for in-ground burials. Beautiful landscaping ensures a tranquil place for grieving pet owners to visit and remember.

Law enforcement officers who attend will be invited to speak at the canine memorial service, as well as a member the clergy.

The media and public are invited to attend the service, which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 26th at 4 p.m. Members of the media are invited to arrive half an hour early for interview opportunities before the service begins.

Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Pet Cemetery is located at 1750 Curlew Road in Palm Harbor. More information can be found on the web at www.curlewhillspetcemetery.com.
