So, do you do car rides?

as of now i have a sports car, and yes they go, we go to the store they go, we go to the bank they go, we go to Petco, they go.. LMAO!! lucky for us we live in a semi small city, we are very pet friendly, we have people take their dogs into hair cut places, dollar stores, discount stores. . the only place we do not see them, unless they are service dogs is the grocery store/restaurants .. other than that pretty much anyone will allow dogs.. so, what is the story with you PT members? :D

Yes, I usually let them go with me on errands. They love car rides. :)

Autumn gets to come on small errands, ones where she isn't alone in the car more than a minute. Its my way of giving her something special since she's getting old and slow and can't keep up with me and the pup.

Reilly goes with me and/or Jeff whenever we are not going to be out of the car for very long. He loves it and I love taking him with me, it is a nice special thing for us.

Duke always goes on car rides with me. Everywhere we go, he goes.

Eli goes to Petsmart and the dog park usually every weekend... Bunny and Zeke get to ride around sometimes.. if I'm just making one quick errand or we're going to Grandma's house. I had a sports car.. Scion tC.. lowered, all kind of mods, it was beautiful... Decided that I should trade it in and get a car that all three could ride around in.. and not have to worry about the hair! So now I have an Xterra, and my first mod was a no-rattle dog gate. So they can all come along with me now. :D I dont like to take them when its too hot or cold though.. like its in the 30's (F) today, so I wouldnt want to take them, because theyd have to huddle together for heat while I was in a store.

I take as many as I can, as often as I can. Sometimes all I can take is one and then . . . it's a difficult decision, which results in some mad dashes to sneak out the door without a harness on!

Bichons are noted for being stolen from cars; they always look like young dogs and people will smash a window and take your dog. So I have to be cautious what my rounds are, whether they can come or not. I've mentioned in other threads, they are regular customers in my bank branch, and Lacey is the ONLY dog to ever sit on the manager's desk! :D

usually only if we are going somewhere that they can come in, or if the place we are going is FOR them like seminares and classes and what not, as well on for hikes and trips to the dogpark of coarse. for just regular car trips though, not usually, the odd time here and there we will let ONE of the 6 dogs come for a care ride, usally Happy or Perky.

Guinness goes almost everywhere with my dad.

I wish I could take Dasher more often. But it is just too hot and humid down here so he only gets to go for rides when it's cool or on trips to the dog park or Petco.

We take Sassy with her on occasions, but it really depends on where we are going.

wow, sounds like we have a tie for YES YES always and Only for Vets and such..

so, the next question would have to be is >>> For those who take their pups with how do they ride?

In the frontseat?
in the backseat??
In a dog made Carseat??

When mine are with me it is usually Thunder in the front seat laying down, and Cinni, is usually all over for the trip out, then on the way back she is layed down in the back seat. :D

Kind of mentioned it before... but I'll elaborate. Bunny and Zeke stay in the back (trunk area of SUV) behind the dog gate and Eli sits in the backseat. He likes to try and step on the center console.. but we're teaching him "back seat" means so.. So hopefully eventually he'll start to lay down or at least sit in the seat... So he doesnt fall over when I turn. Its too crowded with all three in the very back. And Bunny gets real weird when the wind comes in the window... She gets real snippy at it... Oh these special dogs... :p

We will take Zoee with us if it's a quick trip to the store or post office. And we always take her up to my brothers, which is a long trip.
In the Yukon she rides in the back, we fold one of the seats down....unless I'm not in the car, or when we stop she jumps in the front seat and drools all over my seat.
In my car (Jetta) I bought this really cool sling thing at Target that straps over all four headrests. It keeps her from falling to the floor if I have to break or turn hard. It is always in my backseat unless I have to put people passengers back there. Then I warn them they must deal with the dog hair. :)

Only if it is a trip JUST for the dogs... Belle gets carsick ... BADLY lol

It isn't fun for her and it isn't fun for us

I absolutely try to take Logan everywhere, as long as I'm not going to be in the store for long. If it's too hot or cold, i don't, but all she has to do is see her leash and she actually jumps up and down like a pogo stick!

I personally don't take the dogs in the car unless it is for a purpose ... a trip to the vet or a run in the desert. I just don't really care for riding in vehicles with dogs. I suppose if I took them more often, they would be calmer, but as it is, it is a BIG production for them and they are very hyper.

My husband, however, takes Lucky with him whenever he can ... to the post office, the store, to stop in at work. Hey, it's his truck ... he wants it full of dog hair, HE can clean it. :D

I try to give each dog a car trip once a month. Reggin and Indy have come to gether but they prefer their own days. Both will sit in the passenger seat either solo or on mine or Josh's lap. Zoe absolutely adores rolling around in the summer with the top down. She's a passenger seat kind of girl and is super well behaved. Henny has to go in Josh's Ford Ranger with the passenger seat removed because she just doesn't fit in my care. I'm looking to buy a Jeep this summer that I can just take the back seat out of permanantly.

Sequoia absolutely LOVES car rides. We take her everywhere we can during the winter months. Being a husky the cold isn't a problem at all for her. When we have meetings in the evenings for our State Animal Response Team we let her stay in the car because she is happier there than she is at home by herself. We try to take her somewhere she enjoys at least once a week. But you ask her if she wants to go on a car ride and she starts spinning circles and wooing and leaping about. Once she gets in the car she lies down in the back seat and takes a nap unless we start singing and then she will join in.

In the summer months we try and go on as many picnics as we can so she still gets car rides but we don't take her with us on errands. It is just too hot. In fact for her if it gets near 50 degrees and is sunny at all it is too warm in the car for her by herself. One of us then stays in the car with her.

Anywhere I go that I know they won't be sitting in the car most of the time (trips to gramma and grampa's house, gas station, the bank, drive-through, etc) I take them with me as much as possible. As far as fur goes... my car and truck are covered in it... but all of my friends have come to terms that they'll be covered in fur no matter what... lol.

My dogs are strapped in the back seat. Imagine if Autumn was with me when I got in that accident. If she weren't strapped in she'd have gone through the windsheild. Not a risk I'm willing to take for me or my dog.

It's very rare that both Robin, myself, and our daughter don't all go some where together, so they rarely get to sit in the front seat.. Unless of course on the strange occasion that I get to go some where alone, then I take them with me and let them sit in the front..

When we all go some where, if we are going to petsmart, or somewhere when its cool outside, and we are only going in for a few minutes we will bring one or two of them with us.. Usually just one though because our car is small, and we have the carseat.

All of our dogs like going bye bye except for Mercy.. It makes her nervous, but if I just take her by myself, she seems to enjoy it. She's attached to me at the hip.

I can't see how anyone here wouldn't take their dogs on car rides.

There aren't many dog-friendly places in my town, and I think they'd rather chill at home than wait around in the car for me, but they come with me to every pet store, park, dog park, and outdoor event.

I'll take them with me if I don't have to leave them in the car. I just don't like the fact them being left alone...who knows what will happen.

I'd rather leave them at home where they are happy and comfortable.

And they ride in their crates.

Yep if i am just running into the supermarket or going through a drive through i will take someone for some special 1 on 1 time (If it is not too hot or cold ;) ).

If we are going somwhere dog related i will take all of them, unless it is the vets (Only those that have an appointment go).
