Those are beautiful. I've always wanted to go to Egypt. My BIL just came back from a trip there and he took probably 3 photo's in total. I was so mad. So it's nice to see your photos.

Wonderful! I was in Egypt a year ago just now, so I have been thinking a lot about it over the last few days. And I looked at all 250-odd of my photos the other day too ...

Beautiful! Did you get a chance to go to Petra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petra) while you were in Jordan? I've always wanted to go.

Great photos, thanks. I've only ever read about it and seen pictures; I would also love to visit some day. I was a docent when the King Tut exhibit came to Boston, years ago, and since then I have read quite a bit about the area. Isn't Abu Simbel the one which is threatened by the rising Nile? Can't remember for certain.

I was in Egypt 3 years ago! We didn't see the piramids, because they are to far north; Your pics are fantastic!!! :)

Freedom, Abu Simbel was one of the many monuments moved in the 50's when the waters started to rise after the building of the new dam at Aswan. Basically the water in Lake Nasser now covers the virtually the whole of what was Nubia, from Aswan down to the border with Sudan. The United Nations stepped in to co-ordinate a rescue operation for many temples which were threatened. Is that what you are thinking of? I certainly haven't heard that anything is currently under threat from rising water.

Hello everyone,

Thanks heaps for your nice comments, travelling to other countries and discovering the very diverse culture is what intrigues me.

Killearn Kitties you are right since Lake Nasser was formed the Nubian's territory is submerged, but it gave the Egyptian people the opportunity to have fresh water all year through plus free electricity (so the Egyptians are not effected with the continuosly rising prices of crude oil!!) and the land is more fertile.

Kuhio98 this whole adventure in Egypt was started from the desire to visit the beautiful red rose city.....Petra! Yes I did go and it stood up to the level of my expectations cos its simply amazing. I will post pictures in a new thread called Jordan soon. If you ever want to visit Petra its very easy to cross the border through the red sea from Sinai to Aqaba. If anyone would like any tips just send me an e-mail.

Killearn Kitties why don't you post your pictures too of Egypt to this thread? It would be very nice!

Maya & Inka's mommy where exactly where you? In Luxor?

I am so sorry that I haven't done this yet. I fully intended to post a few pictures, but I got caught up in work and guests at home. Don't these people know I have important stuff to do??? :D

Also my Egypt photos are on Shutterfly and you are not supposed to link directly to it. Pain in the neck. I haven't figured out all the ins and outs of the other photo hosting sites since imagestation closed.

Hope you didn't think I was ignoring you. ;)

Our plane landed in Luxor, yes! There we went aboard a Nile "cruise-ship". We went southwards up to Aswan; visiting all sites on the way. Those who wanted could go to the Abu Simbel by plane or by bus. We bought plane tickets for all 4 of us. But guess what happened on that day...... . I got the "tourista" , a wellknown and feared kind of heavy diarhea and cramps :(
So, while my hubby and kids were admiring this splendid temple, I was laying in my bed, feeling terrible... . Thanks for the beautiful pics you took of the Abu Simbel! Do you mind if I would copy them and add to our Egypt-picturealbum?

Gorgeous photos! I love how you took pictures of the locals and children. Not many do that. I think I myself would be too embarressed to ask, but it gives such a personal touch to your photos. :)
