My brother had a huge 10 pound bag of rice. I saw it on the counter and immediately thought, "What a cool tote bag that would make!" I knew as soon as I saw it, I knew how I would decorate it. It's even got a zipper already. It's burlap so I need to figure out how to seal the material so it doesn't keep loosing threads. Any ideas on what to use?

Val, you're so creative ! I'll bet that bag will hold up better than most purses/totes we buy. ;) No idea what to seal it with though.

This site may have some ideas for you.

Usually, just washing it a few times takes off the loose threads and softens it up.

That is a great find!

Another idea. This woman makes bags with burlap. SHe gives them a light coat of semi gloss to prevent the bag from shedding all over clothes.

If you do that, I am thinking you may want to test an area and see if you can work on it to add the beads AFTER the spray. Not sure what effect the spray will have on the shine of the beading.

Try using spray-on starch and iron it... it will come off with the dirt when you wash it and you just respray!
