What I Like About Winter:

I like the crunch of old snow underfoot
The way a snow-covered parking lot could be a field
The hiss and clang of steam radiators at night
The sharpness of the stars in a clear night sky
The warm sight of lit windows in houses after dark falls
Hot cocoa and hot chai tea -
They taste better when you know it is cold outside
Plainly seeing the tracks of elusive wildlife in newfallen snow
How the cardinals stand out, mama and papa both, agains the white
The black and white lace formed by snow on tree branches
Mittens toasty from the radiator
Cold days remind me of ice-skating on the ponds
Feeling you could glide for miles

And that there's no pollen, no ticks and no mosquitos around!

Add your own - but positives only please. Someone who doesn't like winter can start their own thread.

Watching the big fat flakes of snow falling
Walking in the snow
Trying to catch a snowflake on my tongue (yes, I haven't growd up yet);)
Christmas - everything about it and what it stands for
Driving around and looking at everyone's pretty Christmas lights

I like to drive down a country road and look at how beautiful the snowfall makes everything.

And snow! Gotta love the snow!

Watching the pups bounce and hop in snow that's taller than they are.
Watching them get cases of the zoomies trying to catch their own snowballs they create.
Making snow angels and snow men.
Snowball fights.
The crackling of burning wood in the fireplace.
Thick socks, jogging pants and hot chocolate.

So many things I like about (and miss about!) winter...

The silence after a new snow...
Making snow angels...
Snow...
Hot chocolate...
Cold cheeks and a warm fire...
Clearing sidewalks...
Walking across a frozen lake with trembling knees...
Seeing my breathe on the cold air...
Bundling up in bed...
Frost on the windows...

Oh...I could go on and on...

Hey we have that here in northern california, sounds like a trip to tahoe is in order! Well maybe not the frozen lake but the rest.

Well, I'll try not to repeat too much of what has already been said; much of it I enjoy as well. I do have to say I love hot chocolate w/marshmallows, YUM.

I like the sounds of winter.

There seems to be a "quietness" that you don't get in the other seasons, so that the sounds of Nature which DO occur are sharper, more distinct.

Water running, under the frozen top of a stream.

Birds' calls are clearer, whether it's due to the changes in the air, or that so many of the song birds have migrated, so you can hear each note.

The cracks and snaps as ice freezes, or thaws; as trees bend to the wind, ice or snow.

Icycles........

Taking a deep breath in the cold, crisp air. You can feel it all the way to your toes.

The feel of cold little toes of a six year old as she tries to warm up her feet on her Aunt's stomach as we snuggle in bed.

The complete utter silence........even for a moment or two is delicious.

OOooh gotta add this one, and I don't know how many of you have experienced it ..

The deep booming crack of a well frozen pond at night that can shake you to the core until you realize that the sound is coming from well below the ice you are on, and cannot hurt you

Being able to see straight down into the ice when it freezes under the right conditions

Hehe, you're NOT they only one ;) :D

I also love watching the birds eat all the goodies we hung in our trees!

Watching the snowflakes fall
Watching the birds eat what people hung in the trees for them
Walking in new fallen snow in a country lane or a wood
The silence in the streets, even if cars are driving
Sitting in front of a real fire drinking tea or coffee
The soft light everywhere

Throwing snowballs for my dog's to catch
The first snow of the year that covers every tree branch and glistens
Snow days from work!

Paw prints in fresh snow.

I get so horribly homesick this time of year. I have a cousin who works at a ski resort in Truckee...perhaps I should go visit her!

Maybe ES but not within the next few days we have a couple of huge storms coming in.

Another thing:

Suddenly warmer days that feel so much warmer than they would have two months ago

The odd sensation and siight of fog caused by evaporating snow in warm moist air

Church services by fireside
(In January and until Palm Sunday each year, we worship in the church parlor, which has a lovely fireplace, and is a cozy space, rather than a large majestic one.)

Yep today the sun came out after our deluge and you could hear all the neighbors doing their yard work like it was summertime.

On a cold rainy afternoon, being able to snuggle with Max. I'm in my cozy flannel nightgown on the couch and the fireplace is going strong keeping us both warm. I'm watching a good movie on TV. :) I could stay there all day.

Moonlight making twinkling diamonds in the snow, snuggling under a cosy blanket with a huge new book, making "winter food" like delicious soups and stews...

I used to love to watch RB dog Sam slide around on the ice and wonder who pushed him LOL!

2hr delays for school so we can sleep in... love them!

Snow days so we can stay home and not have to drive to work!

Following cat tracks in the snow in our neighborhood.

Seeing the kids come into school all red cheeked and bright eyed from being outside.

Hot cocoa with marshmallows.

Flannel sheets.

Flannel PJs for lounging.

Fluffy, comfy, cozy sweaters.

Making soups and stews and all those comfort foods!

I thought of one more....

Putting up the outside lights and putting up the Christmas tree. To me that's the best part of Winter.

What I love about winter...

Snowmen! :D
Siberian "Snow noses" :p
Snowsuits on the little ones. :)
Sleds sliding down hills bearing children screaming with excitement!
Snuggly sweaters :o
Snowflakes swirling in the air.
Steam hanging above the bay.
Steam whistle "toot-toot" of the Christmas Train that runs by our house.
