I have been ripping my hair out over this *@&# computer. It is so badly infected that I can't do much and I can't really start from scratch because I don't have all of the programs I need to recover it. So I think I need to install a good malware program and hope it removes the problem. Anyone know of a good program that won't conflict with the McAfee I already have on there?

Download Trend Micro for a free 30 day trial. It will run scans by itself.

Spybot Search and Destroy is an excellent freeware - but you have to make sure you run it!

I use Webroot Spy Sweeper with the McAfee. I think I'd just let the
Geeks at Best Buy clean it up for me & then go from there. :)

I use SpyBot Search & Destroy AND AdAware. I think they're both free.

Me too. And if I were you, I'd get rid of Mcafee. I had problems when they were on my computer, too. If you use Windows, they have a firewall you can use. I also use AVG free (http://www.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-virus/us/crp/0) for my anti virus software. Never had a problem with them.

Thanks guys.

Combined with the msconfig tip I got the other day and an updated version of spyware, I have the computer up and running. Thank goodness! Everyone was acting like they lost heir best friend. I will kill them the second they put instant messenger back on -- I am so certain a lot of the viruses came from that. I had a dozen unapproved networks on the computer and all. What a mess.
