Today is World AIDS day.

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.

Please donate (http://www.avert.org/donate.php), light a candle (http://www.candlelightmemorial.org/light_candle/index.php), and wear your ribbon.

How disapointing that only our mayor could write a response to this World AIDS day thread.

I guess most people think it doesn't affect them. :(

Until there is a cure.

It is a disease that affects the future of the whole world, because of the number of lives it has taken. I think, Jackie, that many people read the thread, just didn't know how to respond.

Oh, I can assure you it does register with me. I lost my younger brother
to this horrible disease a few years ago. I think of him often and miss him
very much. He was a beautiful, talented man.

Sorry, I was stuck in an ice storm. Couldn't have missed the day if I wanted to, being as LOGO is the only tv station I watch. I do wish the rest of the world would catch a hint that this affects everybody, not just the gay or black community. AIDS isn't choosy about who to infect.

124 views so some people have at least read it.

I dedicated a candle to Freddie Mercury and a few of my friends who have since died from this horrible disease.
