For every word you get right, they donate 10 grains of rice to end world hunger. Its doesn't sound like a lot, but I have earned 1000 grains so far. (Its very addicting)

Great fun Anna! This is the first time I have ever played something that made me smarter and helped people at the same time. ;) I just got up to over 500 in no time! ;)

Very, very addicting.

I try to do at least 1000 daily. The best I've done is a temporary score of 50, but usually cruise around 45. Do any of the rest of you purposely miss in the first 4 to start at a lower level? It cycles through a much larger set of words, and seems more fun to me...

I had seen this mentioned on the news the other day and forgot to write down the url.

I just donated 320 grains but will go back later now that I have the url.

Thanks so much for posting this. :D

Between hubby and I we have donated 6300 so far. He is working graveyard tonight so I will most likely get back on there and donate some more after he goes to work. :)

I always thought I was pretty good at picking out the correct word when given a choice, but as the words got harder, I had to get out my dictionary. The one I picked up was a *family edition* and some of the words weren't even in there. I don't retain what I learn very well, but now and then I'm thinking a word or two will seep into my dense brain. It's happened doing crossword puzzles, so I think this too may add to my humble store of knowledge.

Does anyone know how many grains of rice it would take to make a decent meal? I'd like to strive for that.

Thank you for posting, it's a great site and great fun. I just donated 1,000 grains and it didn't take long. I'm going to pass this on to the librarians at work, they will love it! As the words became harder, I needed to cheat and opened a tab with an online dictionary. That way, I could simply copy and paste the word in when I was really stumped. I don't mind cheating in a good cause.

Wow Anna, that is really fun! Some of the words I have not even heard of! :o What a great way to help out starving people!

I HAVE to stop visiting this site. I've been there three times this evening and donated 3,500 grains of rice. My poor cats, meanwhile, are starving for their evening meal.

I love it!! I used to have a vast vocabulary and "dumbed it down" a lot over the years because people thoughts I was talking down to them.... I love that I still remember a good number of words! :D (and those I don't remember I can guess correctly! LOL)

Ok, I got nosey! I got out my rice and counted out 100 grains. It came to one even teaspoon. So, I figure that it takes 1200 to make a fourth cup of rice. Just in case anyone else was wondering too. :D

That was uncooked minute rice though.

I did another 3200 yesterday evening. I'm hoping it helps my fuzzy memory to wake up. ;)

That's not cheating, that's what we all need to do when we come up on a word we don't know, whether it is to earn rice or just figure out what it means.

That's great Karen. I got up to level 43 with 600 grains. I like word games
like this but, can you imagine someone, somewhere ,counting out each grain
of rice? :D

ooo... I feel so smart. I'm at level 42 without any problems! A lot of the words are ones I already know and knew the answer before I even looked at the choices :) I love vocabulary

They have it set now where it can keep track of how much you donate. I'm over 10,000 now. When I hit the 10,000 mark, it started donating 20 grains per correct word. :D

This is so much fun. :)

Yes, I noticed that, and I got up to level 50 for my vocabulary today, too! Only had to look up a couple words.

And here I thought it was because I was special!!! ;) :D

I'm glad they did that. It goes faster that way!!!

My highest vocabluary has been 44. I don't look up the words. I just guess if I don't know them. :D

Donated 6000 grains last night in one session without much trying, I kept thinking - "I'll just get it to an even amount, and then quit," but the next word would pop up and I'd think "Oooh, I know that one ..."

Truly addictive.

Just bumping this up for those who haven't seen it and to remind the rest of us to play.

People are hungry all year long and this is a fun, painless way to help out. :)

Moff, Thanks for the bump. I had forgotten about this site. I enjoy it & if
it helps people, that's great too. :)

How does it determine your "vocabulary level"? I got to 30 then it dropped down to 23 pretty fast and no matter how many I would get right, it wouldn't increase. =/ Frustrating since I know I have a pretty broad vocabulary, but I donated around 980 grains ;) Will have to do more later when I have more free time.

Jessika, every 3 questions that you get right in a row, you advance a level. But you decrease a level as soon as you get one wrong. Hope that helps! :)

Oh that's a pain!! But I know I answered more than three in a row and I didn't gain a level, but decreasing a level for every wrong one, that makes sense.

My level goes from 32 to 42, depending on how my brain feels that day! :D

I like clicking on the speaker and listening to them pronounce those really long words. hehe :D

I do that too, but it doesn't help with the meanings. :D I can usually
look at how a word is spelled to figure out the meaning (Latin derivatives)
but even that doesn't always work.

Mainly I guess, but generally get it right. I like the speaker aspect too. Hope that helps my befuddled brain retain the word a bit longer than just seeing it.

I hate to admit this but there have been occasions when given a second chance of a word I got wrong, I got it wrong again! :o

I've done that too. Some words I just can't remember no matter how many times they bring them up. :)
