my mom was Jane Tupacz (1917-2001)
she served as a captain in the Army Nurse Corps in World War II
she was stationed on a hospital ship near Sicily
she was working as a charge nurse at Mt. Sinai in NY and since she was still single in her mid 20's, she decided to join the ANC.

my father (1924- ) served during World War II in what was then known as the Army Air Corps. (aviation portion of the US Army)
He served as crew member (in-flight mechanic) of a brand new 1943 C-47 "Gooney Bird." I just spoke with my dad today and asked him to reminisce about his earliest memories. He told me that a replica of his original brand new aircraft he was assigned to throughout the war - was put on display recently at Fayetteville, NC just a few years back at a new museum built there. It is suspended from the ceiling and even has his name painted on the side :) I would like to see that someday.

I remember them both on this Veteran's Day 2007

Never to be forgotten.

Thanks to all who serve, have served or are related to them.

I was listening to a C&W station today and they ran a promo that said,

Do not forget the people who who serve - They protect your right to protest against the war.

My favorite veteran is now on meds for a "touch" of pneumonia, though I talked to him today and he's feeling MUCH better. That's Dad, whom a few of you got to meet at the Webster, MA Pet Talk gathering.

One nephew is just beginning his military career, so we have deceased veterans (grandpa, grandmother, and uncle, and great-uncles on back through the generations), long-since out of the service (Dad), just-retired (Lady's Human) and currently enlisted (James).

We don't forget our veterans in our family, and make sure to harass them extra special!

We just returned from the concert. It was
Guy and Ralna, of the Lawrence Welk Show, Present a Tribute to Our Veterans

Many patriotic songs and tributes. The color guard from all the branches of the military were presented as the song for each branch was sung. They asked the vets in the audience to stand for their branch; quite nice, SO many in the Navy; well we ARE on the ocean!

Guy sang two solo songs back to back, one a tribute to the tattered flag, the other "I'm Proud to Be an American." (You probably know both songs as I did, I'm just not sure of the titles.) He was so choked up by the middle of the second song that he had to stop and Ralna came on to finish the set.

The RI WW II Memorial was dedicated today as well; we will go see that during the week. They ran out of funding and had to stop work on it for a few years. All finished, now!

Veterans day is a very special time for our family, as most of us are veterans. Today we will all be getting together, and having a large family dinner, commemorating this day.
