As I was making my rounds in the shelter today, I noticed a chocolate pittie boy cowering in the corner of his kennel. As I was taking him out of the kennel, I noticed that he was in terrible shape. He was absolutely covered in bite wounds and scars.

Sure enough, this poor pittie boy was a bait dog. His name is Phil. I took these pictures with my camera because, while we often demand tighter crackdowns on dog fights, one can hardly understand the horror of it until one deals with its victims in person:

He sports a typical home-crop job.

Hard, swollen front leg:

You know how they say rescued pitties really understand what you've done for them? It's true. The entire time I was trying to take pictures of Phil, he kept pushing his head against my stomach for some loving.

The pictures do bring a reality to dog fighting. That just makes me so upset and I feel so sorry he had to go throught that. Good thing he had you to rescue him. I hope he finds a great home with someone who understands him and what he went through.

LES here, that poor, poor dog! He had no choice in any of it. I do hope someone can adopt him and help him to trust again. He will need some special treatment. Any idea if he needs medical help for any of that? Aw gee, I HATE this side of rescue. Thanks for being so kind to him, he obviously knew it!

Poor Phil. :( I'm so glad he was saved. That is a horrible way to live. I too hope someone will adopt this guy and show him how a real home life should be.

Some people just have no souls. Poor Phil....it truly is a testament to the canine heart to see just what they can endure and how they still give their love freely.

That poor boy.
Its obvious, even just on his face, that he really appreciates you guys. =]
He looks like such a big sweetheart. Good vibes headed his way for his wounds to heal quickly and that a perfect forever homes finds him.

Poor guy! It's so great when rescues take in the bait dogs and know they aren't mean. Giving them a chance!

Aw poor baby! Seeing those pictures just makes me so angry, and I'm not even a very emotional person. Yet he is freaking cute in that first picture.

Good thing Phil won't have to suffer it anymore, but the B@$tards who did it to him already ruined his reputation. Hopefully some kind, understanding person will find time for him and a place in their family for him.

It's those dog fighting creeps who ruin the breed.
My dad's own theory on adopting Michael Vick's dogs; just keep telling people who qualify for adoption that they're getting one of his dogs until you've adopted out a couple hundred homeless dogs.

:( Poor boy..I teared up looking at those pics. I will never understand people who can do this to such a wonderful breed of dog. Please keep us updated on his progress if you can. I really hope he finds his perfect home soon.

so sad. I will never understand people who do that, who can sleep at night afterwards..

Are they going to adopt him out?
