Last weekend, we went sailing on Narragansett Bay for the last time this Fall. It was a gorgeous day, and we sailed around Gould Island, a small island in the Bay between Aquidneck Island (where we live in Rhode Island) and Jamestown Island. The water was really sparkly!

Gould Island is surrounded by submarine docks, and was used during WW II as a munitions loading area.

This is one of the old elevators:

Then we sailed around and closer to Jamestown Island, so picturesque.

As we sailed back to the docks, we were greeted by the peanut gallery:

It looks absolutely fantastic, and what great weather for it.

My husband is on a sailing course this weekend. He was there last weekend too, but the weather was better last weekend. Today is grey, damp and very windy - poor thing!

Cool! I have never been to Rhode Island... pretty cool.. I think I am so out of the loop here - when did you move there.. and you lived in Ohio, correct?

Yes, we lived near Findlay. Hubby took this job & moved last October, but I didn't come out here till the end of May, right after the Findlay PT pic-nic. We like it here. JoJoe got certified for sailing this summer. We've gone out several times, I just haven't been good about posting pictures.

We rent the sailboat from the NAPS, very reasonable for employees!

JoJoe got certified this summer for sailboats.

They are called Rhodes.

We learn all sorts of New Stuff ...
"NAPS" = Naval Academy Preparatory School = pre-entry school for the Marine Service Academies ...
Is that where JoJoe Teaches math?

Now to the BOAT!

NEET-O! Where'd the Skipper go to Sailin School?
How BIG (long) is the boat ... got sleeping bunks or a galley aboard?
We need a pix of the whole boat!

And - WHERE are the REST of the Crew?
Don't the Furry Kids get to go sailing?

Your on-the-water pix are great!!

Aaawww- that makes me jealous. You still have such wonderful weather. Our little dinghy that sails on Ammersee is already in the winter dock for this year.

Yes, Phred, that's where he's teaching now. He voluntered to be one of the sailing instructors when the new classes come in, so he took sailing classes thru NAPS. The boat is a Rhodes 19. It's 19 feet long. No berths, no galley, just the basics. And nope, no 4-footeds allowed on the NAPS boats. But we regularly pass up other boats with furry crew along.

We also went out on a racing sailboat, I'll upload pics & get them attached to this thread in a couple days. And I'll attach a few from the Tall Ships Festival - very fun!

Math and Sailing ... interesting specialties!

No 4-Foots, huh?

Good ole "Navy Regulations"! :p
Must be because they found some 4-Footers couldn't *Salute the Colors* when boarding.
