My Mom is very active in her community. Her and Dad are on boards and committees all over the place! Mom is particularly active in her church. Technically it's a United Church, but most of the protestant faiths in the area have joined into one congregration due to diminishing memberships. Mom is usually quietly devout. Not pushy, not going to preach at you, unless you ask her to!
A couple years ago, their minister quit and they haven't been able to replace her. Not alot of ministers to start with and even fewer who want to live in a village of 400 in the middle of Saskatchewan! On the weeks that no visiting minister was available, my Mom has been giving the sermons and doing all the other duties of a minister except ceremonies. She missed her calling. Mom is an RN, but quit when my sister was very young(Trish was a very sickly child). Mom should have gone into the ministry. I've attended her services and she speaks with great passion and faith. She manages to make church fun--she's had kids playing with beach balls, animal blessings, always has a kids time before Sunday School. She loves it and it shows.

She called me last night to tell me that I won't be able to talk to her for a week. She's going away to begin her studies to become a minister! The program will take two years to complete. She'll be 61 when she's finished. I am so proud of her for following her heart and her dreams!

Way to go, for sure! :D

This reminds me of a story: A man in his late 30's was debating about pursuing his passion and going to law school. At one point he said, "Do you know how old I'll be when I finish law school?"

His friend replied, "And how old will you be at that time if you DON'T go to law school?"

He went to law school!

I bet your mom will have a blast - tired from studying and thrilled at the same time! :)

Good for her! What a fantastic thing to do at that age - I am so impressed.
Please wish your mum all the best from me, and let us know how she gets on. :D

What a wonderful story! I like the idea of a Pet Talk Chaplin..............

but then again, Phred does a pretty darn good job of it on his own.
