Introducing "Baby Maple". She was born from a seed, not a root, so she is a viable tree. She now lives in her own pot and is being carefully tended.

This last photo is a picture of her papa's limb. It shows how very sick
her papa was and as sad as it was - it was clear that he deserved to cross the Bridge and bring blessed shade to all who reside across the Bridge.

:)

Sure hope Baby Maple is being raised as a HOUSE-seedling rather than a Yard-tree ...
Nut-Rats might be tempted to Tree-Nap her.

Have you considered some Fertilizer?
Speedie-Grow might help produce some shade before the turn of the Century.
:p

Daddy-Maple will be so proud!

Awwwe Gini, she's a teeny Baby Maple now, but I'm sure she'll grow up to be a fine reminder of her Papa!!!

Thank You for sharing !! :o

What a fine looking Maple she is too!!! :D

I'm glad she doesn't live where she will have to deal with snow and icky cold weather!!! Live long and prosper Baby Maple!!!

I'm sure she is so proud that her Daddy is now giving the Rainbow bridge birdies a place to sit as they sing and providing shade for others. I hear there are some great picnics going on in his shade!!! ;)

Gini she is a beautiful little Baby Maple :) When you do bring her inside (for the night, when it's stormy or whenever) you might prop a picture of her Daddy next to her for inspiration!! ... and what an inspiration he was, for many of us.

I am not sure what to do about bringing her into the house. I wonder if she wouldn't be better off in her natural habitat.

She also is deciduous - so I will probably get hysterical when she loses her leaves - thinking I have killed her!

Gini - if there is a tree farm around your area, call them...maybe even the tree inspector who said Dad Maple had to go to the Bridge.

How WONDERFUL you get to raise the offspring! This is a KEEPER, not fostering! :)

Do you feel any better having the baby tree?

She also is deciduous -

I don't think it's very nice to announce another woman's vices.

Yes, but Richard - when you consider she could have been a CONIFER...well, enough said!

She also is deciduous When I first glanced at this, I thought it said.......delicious....... Oops!

I'm so glad that you have a new baby to raise. With the tender loving care she's going to receive, she'll be all "growed" up in no time.

Hmmm, we need to find a name for her or are you just going to call her Maple???

Congrats!:)

How about Miss Marple? After Agatha Christie's detective character.

OK, I have some questions after examining these pics more closely.

1. Is she now residing right beside the hole where her Daddy was? Somehow I thought she was in a separate pot.

2. Was she purposely planted by you or your tree people?? Or did Daddy decide to leave his legacy and is this the surprise you referred to in the Thank God thread?

Curious minds want to know.

xo

Before I was told there was no hope for the papa tree - baby Maple showed up.
She was growing right along side papa. If she had been born from papa's root, she wouldn't have been a viable tree.

When the tree people came to remove papa - I had them carefully dig up baby Maple and it was determined that she was born from a seed. I had them transplant her to a pot with special soil. She now lives in that pot on the deck.

It is difficult to tell if she will make it - but she does have new shoots.

I like to think that it is a gift from the papa tree because I loved it so much - and touched it and told it so often.

I know, I know - call me a sap!:D

Gini - here is a link I found:

http://www.maple-tree.com/

On that page, there's a menu on the left at the top of the article, and you can click on 'types of maples'.

Calling the tree people might help too! :)

Catty1 thanks for the link.

Her papa was a Norwegian maple. When I first moved to this home I made it a point to find out what kind of tree papa was.

Oh, the pressure!!:D

Baby Maple is coming along and some of her new leaves are much larger than before. However, she is losing some of her lower leaves. I will take more pictures of her in her new home - but it might be a bit before I can get to it.

She is being lovingly cared for - you can be sure.

Isn't it wonderful that baby Maple is growing! :) I know that with your tender love and care, she'll survive! A place on the deck sounds just right!

Catty1

Losing lower leaves is good - it means she is growing more new leaves up top and developing a TRUNK!

Hmm...where would one get a training bra for a small maple?...hmmm :p
