I looked at your photographs on webshots. Not only is your dog absolutely beautiful but also the quality of your photographs is stunning. How do you get Jesse to pose like that?

Thanks, Shai's Mom! Cody is a Husky/Shep, so a little of Jesse does come through! It is hard sometimes to keep everyone and their kids straight, especially before we all started posting pics, of the dogs at least. I think it's time we take the final plunge, and start posting pics of our furkids AND ourselves! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif Might help to keep everyone "straight" in our heads!!

Dear Balto, I came rather close to buying a Husky from a breeder.I decided not, though, even though I love them so much. They are truely beautiful
dogs.Balto,I have a few questions to ask you about this breed,

1.Can they turn on you?

2. Are they effectionate, or are they to independent for that?

3.Are they friendly?

4.Do they ever run away?

Thank you so much for any help!

The pics are great! Beautiful dog!

To answer TollSettFK: I had a Husky/Shepherd and he was my rock. (pic here http://icyhott99.tripod.com/myfurryfamily/ )

He was a little aggressive when he was young, but all he needed was training and he did fine. He was a 'velcro' dog and wasn't happy unless he was touching me. He was extremely devoted and an excellent guard dog. He once scared away an intruder who was at my window one night. He didn't come back! He did get out a couple of times and went for a stroll, but overall he was a wonderful dog! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

BandiTank

to TollSettFK:

1. ANY dog (believe it or not, your sweet little dog CAN turn on you at any moment) can turn on you, but it is doubtful if you treat it right.

2. Siberian Huskies aren't that independant b/c of their natural ability, sled racing, is focused around so many other dogs and people.

3. Siberian Huskies are very friendly, they love children.

4. It's not the breed that tells if they will run away or not, its the individual dog.

Just thought I would help.
By the way, Jesse is beautiful!

Thanx Guys... I must make more of an effort to stay in touch, only with two jobs on the go and Jesse being so demanding there is little time left for me! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Anyway in answer to TollSettFK... Any dog is capable of turning, but with respect and trust on both sides, you stand less of a chance of that happening.

They can be very affectionate and want to play all the time, but they also still like their own space.

They are very friendly and to trusting, sometimes even to people they don't know, any Husky book will tell you that they have no guarding instincts, but I don't think this is necessarily true as Jesse has shown very guarding tendencys towards myself and my husband and also to his home and 3 cats that he shares it with.

Also in the books it tells you never to let your Husky off its lead as he will keep on running, but again with Jesse this is not true, we trust and respect him to come back when we let him off, (But secretly I think he is frightened of losing us really, thats why he never goes to far from us!)

To be onest with you this is our first Husky, and together we have learnt so much from him, and hopefully he has learnt from us to. Personally we would never have any other breed of dog.

Take Care All,
Love Jackie & Jesse. xxx

Hey, Balto,
How did you keep Jesse from jumping in that lake and snatching up the ducks? My neighbor has ducks and every time Dakota gets loose, he chases them. He actually caught one one day and was playing with it. Of course, his idea of play was a little too rough for the little duck and he killed it. :(

Hi There,
Sorry it's talking me so long to reply, only Jesse's grandad has been taken seriously ill while on holiday, so i haven't had much chance to get on PC.
Anyway in answer to everyone's questions, Jesse does like the water, he like's to paddle, but won't get his head, back, bum and tail wet, although when we have the sprinkler on at home for watering the lawns he's quite happy to play and run underneath it.
Hi Stenograsurus, the only reason Jesse hasn't caught the ducks is because i'm still holding his lead just off camera, if he caught one i think he would just want to play with it, (hopefully he won't get that chance, we try to be careful of where we take him and when we let him off his lead)

Take Care All ... Love Jackie & Jesse. xxx

Hi There,

Just wanted to let everyone know that Jesse and myself are still around, and are trying to catch up on all the postings that everyone has put up.

Jesse's grandad is still very poorly in hospital and we had special permission to take Jesse into the hospital to see him. It was the most heartbreaking sight i have ever seen, Jesse sat by his grandad's bed and lay his head on his hand, started whimpering and wouldn't move. This is possibly the last time Jesse will see his grandad and i think he knew it, thats why he didn't want to leave. It just goes to show how much a dog knows and understands.

Regards to all,

Jackie & Jesse. xxx

:( Just wanted to let people know, that sadly mine & Jesse's grandad slipped peacefully away on Wednesday 1st August @ 8:00pm, we are very grateful to the hospital staff that they let Jesse into the hospital to say goodbye to his grandad who he loved very much. I might not be around for awhile as there are many things to sort out, including my nan.
So to everyone who takes time out to come and read my postings, take care and I will speak to you soon. :(

My heart goes out to you, I just lost my grandpa in Dec and everytime I think of him it hurts. And I feel like knife sticks me whenever I refer to my grandma as "grandma and grandpa" even tho he had been in the nursing home for the last 4 years and in a comalike state for the last year. It still hurts. God bless and keep you and your family.
