I have been trying for over 10 years to get a shot of one of these that I liked. I finally got it just the other day. I was sitting in the dinning room eating and I saw the smoke stacks out of the window, closer than I have ever seen them before so I ran and got my camera and got some great shots! I am so proud of these! We were sitting still doing tow work so they were able to pass closer than we have ever been to one of them.

Here you go! ENJOY!

That first one, postcard / calendar / frameable!

And the paddle on the boat went round, round, round . . . .

I would highly reccomend a trip on one of them. The Mississippi River is awesome to travel, daytime or night time, there are some amazing sights and places out there and TONS of history! My Captain is a history buff on the Mississippi River and I find his stories so facinating.

One day, maybe when I retire, I would love to take a trip on one of them. I think they stop so you can visit all the towns along the river and that is something I would love to do.

My thoughts, exactly! I was going to say it looks just like a postcard. That is so cool.

Hey! I only live 2 hrs away from Blytheville. :]
I thought the same thing, too: That should belong on a postcard!
What a gorgeous picture, the boat looks amazing.

It was worth the wait, Laura! What great pictures.

A friend of mine from high school took a job, after college, on one of these boats. She was a hostess or something, I think, for a couple of years, and loved it.

One day, I would love to cruise the MIssissippi on one of these boats, too.

Wow, Laura! What a great photo and I like the caption, too. I read in the Chicago Tribune that the Delta Queen needs a new exemption from the Safety of Life at Sea Act in 2008 because of the ship's mostly wooden construction. And if they don't get it, well ... Let's just say I really hope they get it. My parents took me from Nashville to St. Louis on the Delta Queen in 1988 for my college graduation and their wedding anniversary and we had a great time. I'd go again in a moment.

And what a great story! You were sitting in your dining room and just look what passed by the window! You must have one terrific view all the year round!

cassiesmom- I was in the dinning room of the boat I work on, I am the cook and I do have a wonderful view year round when I am out there on the river....

I read that same article about the Delta Queen and I sure hope they get that exemption! They are what makes that Mississippi River what it is! It would be a shame to loose them.

Thank you Pembroke_Corgi. It is just as nice inside as it is outside and very comfortable... just a tad noisey at times. All the comforts of home... except for NO PETS allowed!
