Vietnam Memorial Wall Defaced This Weekend (September 7-9, 2007)
Eyewitnesses to the damage, Concretebob, Mr. and Mrs. Trooprally ^ | September 9, 2007

Posted on 09/09/2007 6:55:45 PM PDT by tgslTakoma

Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.

Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.

Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...

This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.

Click to see pictures. :(

Okee...dockee...anybody take a look at the "source" of this news????

Welcome to Free Republic!
Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!

Don't the names of the people "reporting" this make you the teeniest bit suspicious??? Mrs. Trooprally?? Concretebob???

Look at those comments! Not silly teenagers throwing soda pop....liberals...lefties...socialist...

Geez.....

I was hoping it was a bad hoax, as the names were odd...but then I realized they were screen names from a blog.

They must have security cams? Or someone saw something? I mean...there are people by that memorial almost all the time.

REALLY sad, stupid stuff. I hope they do catch the idiot!

The posters - many of them tended to blame the left. I would be considered left by some - but I just never would even BEGIN to think about doing something like that. I kind of agree with the person who thought it was someone with a mental disorder, whether left, right or middle-leaning.

That wall has healed so many...I wish my uncle would go, as he is still haunted by his time in Nam.

Just unreal...WHY?

no info about this story on cnn.com. msnbc.com, washington post, new york times, npr and snopes.com. something like vandalism at the nam memorial would surely get national news attention and ASAP. i bet the memorial gets cleaned and frequently by the parks serviceand it would have to be at night, the angle of the photos shadows is very low, (the second photo), could it be an early morning leftover from that? in the words of an 80's president.....trust but verify (the story)

Whew, it is all cleaned up, per the Washington Post article Crow Noir linked us to. I take that to mean, no permanent damage.

What a terrible thing to do! I have 3 cousins on that Wall. :(

Deliberately dishonoring the dead in any way shape or form, no matter what culture, country, political background etc. one comes from is just sick and disgusting in my opinion.
