Happy First Birthday Raven (09/06/07)

I'm making this thread tonight as I don't know if I'll have a chance to tomorrow. Things are very crazy for me right now as I am preparing to move next week to Illinois. But I wanted to make a birthday thread as my little blackbird is turning 1 tomorrow. I did not get her until December last year, but on Sept 6, 2006, my little happy Raven was born. A few months ago, I did not even know if she would live to see her first birthday, after she was diagnosed with malignant oral cancer. Thanks to the unending prayers and amazing generosity of Pet Talkers, Raven was able to have the cancer successfully removed, and against grim odds, it never came back. Oral cancer is one of the most aggressive cancers and all too often fatal. We've been through so much already in the past 9 months, my little blackbird and I. She has helped put a salve on my broken heart during a divorce. She has given me inspiration and hope as she battled cancer and won. She helped show me how many people really do care about me and are there for me in my darkest hour. I wish I could throw her a doggy party, take her to the dog park for a couple hours or out hiking. But she will receive lots and lots of love, as always. Happy birthday vivid, happy Raven!

Happy birthday pretty girl!!!! I remember so well your picture from the Humane Society page, and how you seemed so alive even there, you reached out and grabbed at my heart! I was SO happy when your mom brought you home. I remember the joy and happiness you brought her, and the moments of being a brat as you ate through several keyboard cords=x, and the fear when you got sick, and then again the joy when you beat the cancer. You are a very special girl with a very special mom.

Oh sweet Raven, we all stayed with you and your mom through your heroic battle with cancer and we rejoiced with you both when the vet gave you a clean bill of health. Thank you all so much for the wonderful well wishes and such heartfelt comments on my girl. It's hard for me to believe she is 1 already too. As far as what is in her other than lab I guess that will always be a mystery. She is leggy but her bones are light and delicate. She is taller than Tasha but not as tall as Tommy. She was 55 pounds when I last weighed her a couple months ago and I don't think she is probably much more than that now. I would guess by the time she's 3-4 years old and filled in and matured she may top out around 60ish pounds. Since seeing how very similar her build is to Ivy's I've wondered if she may not have some dobie somewhere in her.

They all got some special yummy meaty bones from the butcher shop and of course lots of loves, hugs and kisses. Thank you again for all the lovely comments.. and Vela shame on you for reminding me of those keyboards :D :p
