I was getting new lenses last week and came up with the part about Crizal. The rest I wrote tonight. Hope you enjoy.

The forties are when you start to fall apart
Things don't work as well, including your heart
Small print is suddenly impossible to read
So you know it's new glasses that you'll need.
Bifocals are what your doctor suggests
You sigh and agree, knowing he knows best.
In the process of making your new lens choices
You can't help but hear one of your inner voices
Saying how can this be? I'm only 43!
Instead of drinking Cristal (http://www.sparklingdirect.co.uk/champagne/louis-roederer-cristal-gift.asp)
and out having fun
I'm getting Crizal (http://crizal.com/Consumer/Welcome/) for my lenses
and wondering if my party life is done.
The start of arthritis in one of my fingers.
Sometimes the pain just lingers.

Getting older isn't all fun, you see
And you're learning why from me.
You're only as old as you feel, they say
I'd hate to tell you how old I feel today.
The twenties are nothing but a blur
And just as much fun as I said they were.
In the thirties I was a little more laid back
And the forties bring on nap attacks.
I hesitate to ask what the fifties will bring.
So I'm not going to worry about the age thing
I'll have my fun with my dog and such
And try not to worry so much.
It really is in your head, you see?
That's why I'm going to pretend I'm 23.

Twenty three is a very nice time.
But you have to think like an aged wine!
Getting older isn't a thrill
There's blindness, aches and everyday pills!

Wear those years like a badge on your chest.
This year and next are just like the rest.
It not what you do, youve done, or what you've seen.
It's all about then, now and between!

Great poem Val!! They tell you life begins at 40. It's all a bunch bull. At 40 your eyesight goes, gravity hits you in places you would NEVER imagine!!

I've decided instead of being 54, I'm gonna be 45!!! :p

Age is a number, and numbers are math, and I'm no good at math!

When my knees went wonky, I took up dance - and damned if it didn't help! The stronger muscles compensate for the beat-up ligaments... and I've got an excuse to put down the work and go have fun once a week. I'll always have a good word to say for Scottish country dance (http://www.rscds.org/) (my personal choice) but I'd also endorse dancing in general as a great way to shake off the blues, strengthen unreliable joints, and have some fun. Whether it's tai chi, twelve-step, ballroom, bellydance, contra, jazz, Greek, or whatever, dancing is awesome!

Love, Columbine (1961 vintage, with size 11 feet and enough "backup fuel" to power at least a small hybrid, so I might as well pop a few wheelies)

Donna, I wish I could do that! At 59 that would make me 95! UGH!

Oh wow Val, this poem is very, very good and oh so true.

They say that once you hit the big 50, that it's all downhill from there.
