Hi, I don't want to complain, but the dog house is over run with joke threads.

I like a laugh as much as the next person, but lately this part of PT is only email forwards, and it is pushing the rest of the topics down before they can be read.

Would we be able to confine the jokes to one single thread?

For what it's worth, I agree with you. Combining them into one makes a lot of sense. :)

Lately it seems like one person creates 8-10 threads at the same time which
also shoves all the others down faster. It's easy to miss other peoples who
we could respond to if we'd seen them. Posting so many at once seems sort

I can honestly say I am not bothered by it! I Think a good laugh does everyone some good. It wouldnt be all that interesting if they were all crammed into one Thread!! Think of how big that thread would be?? Seems kind of pointless to me!

I think the original post should have probably gone to Karen in a PM as a suggestion and let her decide if it is a good idea. I enjoy the jokes and I have no problem with a joke thread, as we have had them before. I think Liz might have used a word other than "selfish," and that is why this thread got heated. If I was posting the jokes I certainly would have been offended by that. I find it easy to scroll through bunches of posts. I do it everyday.

I'm really glad this thread was posted. That's not what the dog house was made for, and it irritates me that so many pop up every day. What's wrong with having one joke thread rather than dozens of them with one joke each??

Everyone needs a little humour and at the moment some more than others. As for the complaint about missing out on threads there is more than one page on each section, General, Dog House, Dog Games - you get my drift I read through every page and and read most threads and then post if I feel the need to. So the problem here is that these people do not want to have to read any further than the first page of a section.

Jokes are good and healthy to laugh at and we need them some people only have the computer to talk to and therefore this is their way of communicating and they need humour the same as the rest of us get in our day to day contact with others.

No need to give up laughing. For all of you who indicate you need a good laugh, in just two minutes I was able to find a whole page of joke websites. Here (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Joke+websites&btnG=Google+Search) is the Google page. I wonder if they will allow people to start filling up their pages with pictures of their furkids. For those that only have their computer as a way to communicate, maybe they can do more internet searches for their various needs, there really is a world of options out there.

I didn't mean for this thread to become a battle, and I didn't pm Karen directly because I wanted to see everyone's opinions on the subject.

I used to come to the dog house to see friendly debate on current affairs. One of the only debate forums I have found on the net where people could agree to disagree, and for the most part it was DRAMA FREE.

It was the first forum, i checked when I logged in, now I barely even check it.

There IS a joke thread, in fact several! It's just that some people can't be bothered to search for them. It's not that difficult to go to the joke thread and open the last page, is it?

This is exactly the problem, you have to wade through so much before you find the threads you want.

Oh, and one thing that irritates me is that some are posting 2-3 posts right under each other - you know, it's possible to EDIT!

I am not arguing with anyone about that. However, people forget that it is KAREN'S job to moderate the board. I wish PMs were used more often. I read some of them and enjoyed and got a laugh. I understand wanting to post and share and see what others may comment on it. It's a shame a compromise couldn't be reached, perhaps a "jokes of the day" thread to combine them into a new thread each day, I think that may have been satisfactory for both sides of the issue. I guess often when someone feels singled out or criticized they tend to dig in their heels rather than give way a bit. It's a shame he felt he must leave the board but that was his decision and no one else responsible for it. Maybe he'll reconsider, it really is a minor issue that would be easy to compromise on, in my opinion.

I like the dog house as is... Its NOT hard to find the news threads & to know when there has been a reply (its called getting an email or clicking on User CP ;) )... A lot of the jokes have adult content, so they BELONG in this section.

without the joke threads the dog house would be dull again... theres like what? 5 news or rant threads /day & 5 or so joke threads/day... its not really that bad, as most of the joke threads have a few replies to them, so they don't get bumbed that often. They just make for a good read.

The news threads that people care about get bumped often as they get a lot of replies, so at the end of the day, they are at the top anyways... I personally have not had an issue finding the very few new news threads /day...


There are so many better things to be complaining about, yet here we are complaining about something so silly that its really sad...

We are all entiteld to our own opinions, but you just werent even up for suggestions!! You just said NO!! simple as that!! This is a public forum, with hundreds of members, who all have a right to say what should be done! Most of the jokes are just pictures of funny things. A thread for jokes is perfect so you don't have look through a whole bunch of posts to find what you want. This is just easier.

I must admit that I am very confused at people who have indicated that they come to Pet Talk for the jokes rather than the pets. I find that looking at the cute pets and hearing how much they mean to their owners makes me feel better about this world. But if I should need an extra laugh, I know how to find joke sites on the internet, they are plentiful. I wish you good luck in whatever it is you are looking for jackmilliesmom, and I hope you learn how to use the internet so that you can find whatever you are looking for as far as personal contact and interaction.

Me too but the jokes are a nice distraction do you not find that. Maybe its just me but I like them and like the people who post them one and all. I love to talk about my dogs but lately have had other things on my mind so the jokes help my day.....

As for personal interaction I get that on a daily basis I was just making a point about some people who do not get it only by computer I have one such contact who is a complete agraphobic and hte only contact she has is on a computer so you need to back off Gingersmom and I can now see with a few posts why so many have left and not come back.

As for learning how to use the internet I am quite proficient in its use I use it everyday for work and pleasure so don't comment on something you do not know about because it may come back and bite you in the a$$


I must admit that I am very confused at people who have indicated that they come to Pet Talk for the jokes rather than the pets. I find that looking at the cute pets and hearing how much they mean to their owners makes me feel better about this world. But if I should need an extra laugh, I know how to find joke sites on the internet, they are plentiful. I wish you good luck in whatever it is you are looking for jackmilliesmom, and I hope you learn how to use the internet so that you can find whatever you are looking for as far as personal contact and interaction.

I don't know why people don't want the jokes on Pet Talk. They are funny and I like them. Even if people don't want jokes on here, people are still gonna post them. Only Karen and Paul can tell them not to post jokes, another member can't and if we have a thread for jokes only The Dog House won't be as crowed with jokes threads.

I think we should let Karen and Paul dictate what is and is not appropriate being posted in which forums. Nowhere does it say that Doghouse is strictly for News; in fact, in the sticky about it, it says:


We have created a new forum for any post that is in some way controversial, upsetting, or just makes us go eeeew! In it are threads about the war, debates and arguments about religion, patriotism and politics, and the recipe for "poop cake."

So to me, any jokes that could come across as being offensive or not for everyone should be more than welcome being posted in here.

Once again, I think we should let Karen and Paul decide what's appropriate to be posted in what forums instead of taking it upon ourselves to dictate that.

I much agree with crittercrazy..... I enjoy the jokes...... yeah sometimes 15 threads are too much but each deserve their own space, otherwise they´ll loose the mystery or whatever you call it.....

having ALL jokes in one thread would be a one time reading from me..... I really don´t enjoy having to go back zillion pages to find the joke I was looking for at the last one I looked into.....

maybe a section as marketplace, introductions, etc. would be nice...... therefore only if you were looking into jokes you´ll go in it...... and thus not overcrowding the general or the dog house as has been being complained......and we could still have a humor left here.....

I must admit I do not read all of them but sure I enjoy them and read them when needed......

Buttercup: at first I thought it could well be a mistake as B and N are next by, and one can have a finger slip but she´s obviosly mad at something, hope you can solve it or just ignore each other......

Karen: I would have PM´d you this reply but wanted to state my opinio for everyone to see...... if it´s possible to add a whole section JUST FOR JOKES I think it would solve the problem. not trying to set rules on you and I know that it might induce to creating a new section for every single issue, but I think this could be well worth it as it has nice arguments on the topic.
