I know a guy who lives just around the corner from me who breeds and shows GSDs. On a Friday evening, they train them on the field which is straight across the road from their house and I see them if I'm up there with Jess.

One evening, I saw them and nipped home to get the camera and take some decent photos of them and get some practise in at the same time.
I just wondered what you lot thought. I thought they turned out quite well.

In case anyone mentions, yes, GSDs here are quite different from in the states because they have more German Bloodlines in them and I hear that it can cause some controversy as to which is better but I'd like people to stay focused on the photography aspect of it.

The first dog to be photographed was a 6 month old bitch called Abi

Next up was Rio the 13 week old pup.

Also, they brought Indi out to have a few photos taken. This was taken a bit later when the sun was about to go down and it made him come out looking a lot redder which was nice.

Last but not least, Tiger. A bitch of about 2 years old. The best trained so the easiest to stand etc...she agreed most with the camera and some of the best shots were of her.

Great photos, nicely composed, and the lighting was well-used. The head shots are particularly nice, but the whole-dog shots are lovely, too!

I definitely think you did a TERRIFIC job and should go pro.

I personally thought your best was of Abi.

I'm not a pro or even amateur... I can only go with what my eyes and brain tell me. So no technical review here.

I'm not usually a fan of close-ups personally, but the fact that i enjoyed these says something.

WOW, thanks guys. I remember Abi when she was Rio's size and I couldn't believe how much she'd grown when I saw her next.
It was nice to get a bit of sunshine because, until this last week or so, it's done nothing but rain all this summer.

I notice that a lot of GSD pups have funny ears like that, lol. Mind, this seems common in a lot of breeds where the ears go through funny stages as they grow.

I'm going to try and get another photoshoot in and get some action shots. I've already talked to the guy about it. If I ever do a breed series of paintings, I'll have plenty of good looking GSD refs to work from, haha. :D

I've also done more photos of my sisters BC pup so I'll post some of those at some point.

Wow!
What BEAUTIFUL dogs!!!
Great pictures too!!

I don't know much about the GSD lines so I wouldn't have anything to say about the differance anyway! :o
The only thing I noticed was that their noses were shorter than what I'm used to seeing here in the US.
No matter.... they are all so stunning to look at!
Thanks for posting them!

I think you did a wonderful job capturing the dogs, they are gorgeous! I really like the photo of Indi. Is that the only one you got of him? I'm requesting more of him, please. :) I agree with the comment about the lighting, very nice!

I got a few others of Indi but the sun was about to go down when they brought him out and he was too busy barking. Looking at the photos, you wouldn't think it because I took advantage of the limited split seconds where he actually shut up, lol.
Also, because he hasn't been trained, he wouldn't stand for any stance shots.
I got a few of him jumping up after the football but they were slightly blurry as the light was getting too low for action shots. I'll see about putting a few up regardless. He is a nice masculine looking dog.

Fabulous shots, you really are good with a camera to capture those head shots. The different lighting adds to their beautiful colours.

Thanks guys.

Hopefully, I got another photoshoot tomorrow doing action shots this time. I know their owner wants head shots of all his dogs. He has 6 altogether. Tiger isn't one of his dogs though, she belongs to one of his mates but she is sired by one of his dogs.

~jessie~ - You take pretty good photos yourself. I was just checking out your chi photos. I loved that first one. :)

BEAUTIFUL dogs! I love the look of the German lines. Nothing better than lines from where the dog originated ;)

Oooh, this thread got brought back up again.

I did another photoshoot but the owner was busy until the evening and then it had clouded over and the light was too low for the action shots so they didn't turn out that great. We'll have to do another shoot and this time he knows it needs to be done in the day rather than waiting until the evening...hopefully.

I got a couple of decent ones. I'll put them up soon.
