I was wondering if any PTers have experience with therapy animals, renting, and the laws regarding them?

A friend (dionne) is trying to get into an apartment. She has two cats. Unfortunately, these apartments do not allow pets.

Her cats are certified therapy animals through her psychiatrist (not for any physical "impairment"). I believe she was able to keep them in a no-pet apartment (in a different city, about six hours away) because of that deal.

Is there a way she can still get into these apartments, with her cats, and without getting in trouble?

I tried googling state laws regarding therapy animals (http://www.animallaw.info/statutes/stusorguidedoglaws.htm) but I'm not entirely sure where the boundaries begin and end. :)

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated! :D

The laws may vary because it is not the same class of assistance animal as a guide or hearing-ear dog. I'd suggest she call city hall of the city to which she hopes to move, and explain the situation. If she gets no answer there, try the state bar association - they often have a 1-question-free help line, or could direct her to someone with the answer.
