Got the idea from the German fotocommunity forum. There's a section for people to post the photo of their very first day at school, and I thought it would be fun to do that here, also!

I start with mine, even though I look very sheepish. LOL I remember that those schoes were not fun to wear, and I hated the dark blue clothes my parents always used to buy for me. LOL Yes, the seventies were a cruel decade when it comes to fashion, looks and haircuts! :)

My parents didn't get pics from our first school day. It was 48 years ago, people didn't take much pics at all :D
But I do have pics from my kids first school day! I will take pics from those and post them later!

Okay, here they are!

How sweet! And they look so tiny! How old are they in the pictures? 6 or 7, like the kids here when they go to school?

I do not have a pic of my first day of school ever but this is the first day of some school year. I think it is 6th grade.

I have two questions...what is that you are holding Kirsten?

ANd why are you and Lut's children dressed for cold weather? When does the school year start?

What a cool picture! :)

It is called "Zuckertuete", and every school starter is getting one over here. There's no English word for it, I think, the translation I found on leo.org said this:

"large cornet of cardboard filled with sweets and little presents given to children in Germany on their first day at school"

Well, school usually starts in August/September, so it shouldn't have been that cool! Not sure why I had to wear that coat! LOL

This was on my birthday in 1958, which is 9/17 and always fell soon after school started. I have a picture of my first day somewhere - can't find it - but it is on this same porch, with this same curly hairdo and a similar dress :D For some reason, this first year was called "pre-first" and was held at the regular elementary school. I don't think they had kindergarten .

Jo was 3, and Indra was 2years10 months. Here kids can start pre-school in the year they turn 3. There are 2 possibilities: start in January, or in September; both our kids started in January :)

I don't have a picture taken on my first day of school. I think the earliest photo that my Mum has in my little school uniform was maybe in Primary 3. I look absolutely miserable in it. A couple of days after the photo was taken my parents had to call the doctor out in the middle of the night. Apparently I had an abscess in my ear which burst, so I probably wasn't feeling great in the photo.

I am enjoying looking at everyone else's photos though. :)

For some reason, this first year was called "pre-first" and was held at the regular elementary school. I don't think they had kindergarten.

I love seeing everyones pictures. My mom has all the pictures from when I was that young, so I have nothing to post.

Debbie- I went to elementary school in NY and they had a class called pre-first too. In my old school Pre-first was a special class for kids that had already went to kindergarden but weren't yet ready for first grade. Our kindergarden was in the regular elementary school too.
