Tomorrow (Saturday July 21st) is the day I picked to be Sierra’s birthday and she will turn 6 years old.
I know some have heard her story before, :o but others have not.
I found Sierra on www.petfinder.com and contacted the rescue and after all the paperwork and home inspection my hubby and I were able to drive to Stow, Ohio (about an hour South of me) and meet the girl that would quickly become my Princess.
She was approximately 6 months old and SKINNY!!! Afraid of everything and horribly head shy. After spending a while at the house with her she finally let Rick and I pet her and play with her, but we could easily see that she was more interested in spending time with the other dogs in the house. We knew she wasn’t going to be an only dog for very long.
She was pulled from a kill shelter where she was going to be PTS because she was labeled as a biter because she snapped at the dog warden when she was being picked up off the street as a stray. :(
She was mostly house trained already (from the foster home she was in) and only had a few accidents in the house. A few weeks later my hubby and I realized that she was itching a lot and so were we….but we didn’t see fleas or anything. So off to the vet we went and found out that she had Sarcoptic Mange.
A little later she started showing signs of separation anxiety, would break out of her crate, and destroy anything she could get her teeth on when she was left alone. It was so sad…. So we started looking for another dog, and that’s when we adopted Buddy and I just KNOW they were a match made in Heaven. They were the best of friends from the first second they laid eyes on each other!
She was very skinny and stayed skinny for a long time, I had our vet test for anything he could think of and nothing ever showed up. She was just a healthy, skinny dog! She never got over 60 pounds until she hit 5 years old! (Now she’s a very healthy 72 pounds!)
I don’t know what I would do without Princess Sierra in my life! She’s SUCH a drama queen! She loves attention and will get it when she wants it but she’ll also have her quite time when she wants it too!
At times I swear she’s part cat. She sleeps 20 hours a day I swear! We wake her up all the time and make her go outside and play, but most of the time all she does is find a nice shady spot to lay in and sleep some more! She is SUCH a sweetie pie! She loves other dogs (except females in her own yard :o ) I love taking her to dog parks because she loves all dogs big and small!
I also love the fact that she looks like a wolf, she’s got such a mysterious look to her I love it! I call her my little wolf girl.
Oh the nick names she has! Sierra Bear, Bear Bear, Boo Butt, Princess, Sleeping Beauty… I could go on and on!
Sierra, my princess girl, I wish you the happiest of birthdays sweetie pie!
Well celebrate with frosty paws and special treats for sure!! :D
I’ll take some new pictures over the weekend but here are a few of my favorite of her:
