THis is a special request Thursday-Brody's Mum is going to CHina so we are
going to toss a "Happy Trails to You" Party.

Kinda like the "east meets the west"?

A little cowboy regalia, some horsey rides and a kinda "by mistake" cocktail.

It's called a Root Beer Surprise.

! oz, rum, I can o' rootbeer and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

______

I was going to make a cocktail last night so I grabbed my rum, ran out of coke., so I used a root beer instead!

Added a scoop of ice cream.

Wasn't bad! :D

Uh, RICHARD? the question is whether China is ready for Brody's Mum! I'll have one of those new-fangled concoctions that you came up with.

Cowboy regalia? Oh goodie! I can get some ideas - we're having a fundraiser "prom" next week for one of my groups and the theme is a Honky-Tonk Ho-Down (no, not THAT kind of Ho! Get your minds out of the gutter!). I need ideas as to what to wear!

Although I have NO idea how we're going to tie a trip to China w/Cowboy Regalia, but what the hey ..... we have a bunch of VERY creative people here :D

One iced tea to go and I'm back to work ..... ;)

Ahhh YESS!
Grammy's *Beverage of Choice* for lunch - a Root Beer FLOAT!
Only requirements: "GENUINE DAD's Olde Fashioned" Rooty beer and 'Nilla Ice Creme.
But ya know, I don't remember her adding the http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif RUM http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/tongue.gif

RB Float Tail >>>

Grammy & Boppa drove to P-Burg from Cleveland, Ohio, to visit us in our
"new house" in the "South Hills", a P-Burg suburb.
Mom laid in plain cake DONUTS (a Boppa must-have) and Rooty Beer.

They arrived for lunch ... Out came the Rooty Beer FLOATS! ... Yummie!!
But http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif ~ Grammy almost *choked* on her first sip!
"Whas's wrong, Mom?" asks MY Mom.

"Oh Honey ... this isn't "DAD's Olde Fashioned" ... is it??"

I heard her *whispering* to Boppa after lunch ...
It has a TASTE, Gus! ... It ruined the ice creme.
"Hires" (a well advertised Pittsburgh brand) just isn't the same!
We'll have to go buy some DAD's!"

http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif
They jumped in the trusty ole Buick and Zoomed off after lunch ...
mission unknown ...
destination doubtful (they'd never been in the South Hills in their lives!

Musta found a DAD's store ...
Boppa came in carrying two Six-Packs of Grammy-Approved "DAD's Olde Fashioned"! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

End of Grammy Tail ... OK, Barkeep - lay a RB S'prize on me, pleeze!
Enuff RUM, and I won't squalk about the origins of the Rooty Beer.

Richard when I was a little girl (many moons ago  ) my mom used to make something called Black Cow Floats. I dug up the recipe for you on line, but I grant you it is not as much fun as yours! LOL! I will have to try it with rum! ;) (Now I am thirsty!) Phred, the root beer had to be Hires and the chocolate had to be Hershey's of course. ;)

Black Cow Recipe

--Kid Friendly Recipe

Ingredients:
Root beer
vanilla ice cream
chocolate syrup

Directions:

Place 2 tablespoons of syrup in bottom of large glass. Add root beer, stirring until liquid is within 2 inches of top of glass. Add a huge scoop of ice cream.

This recipe for Black Cow serves/makes 1

I have gone blank - how did I get this picture to show up? Help!

Gini, now I feel deprived. I have never heard of Dad's root beer, much less tasted it. *sigh* In my neck of the woods root beer was either Hires or the store brand. Phred, is Dad's still available?

Thanks, Pam..........I kept putting and around it but it won't work.

I have this sign in my kitchen...........I've had it for years.

Now it is off to China.................wonder if they have Dad's over there.

Ooohhh, I'll have one of those, if not for the taste (are they any good?), then for the pretty bottle - they don't make these anymore, do they? Probably a collectors item now.

Have you ever had a Waggle Dance, or Westmalle? I swear, they're good! I'll bring some next time. :D

Mario wants to Waggle Dance with Lady, isn't that cute?!! ;) I'm partial to Cream Soda myself.. don't know if they even make it any more. My brother & I used to save our money to split a Rock Creek Cream Soda on the weekends

Umm......Lady? Easy on Mario, girl. I don't think he wants to play as vigorously as you do.

Hmmmmm Root Beer?
Not sure if we get that here ...

According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia >>>

"The carbonated drink commonly called sarsaparilla (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarsaparilla) in Australia is a type of root beer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_beer), named after the sarsarparilla root from which root beer is made. However, the taste is quite different, to the point that they may be considered two completely different products. This may be due to a difference in the production process."

Google combinations of "Australia" and "Root Beer"
don't offer up any shops carrying the American style product. :(

I think I need some CALM-momile tea this morning as San Francisco was shaken awake this morning by a 4.2 quake. Mitzi had just jumped up on her window seat which coincided with the first jolt, and then the house rolled for several seconds. The retrofit held. It was 15 minutes before the alarm went off, so we rolled over and went back to sleep. No damage here, just a few frayed nerves, although the peeps in the East Bay had their power knocked out.

gini
07-20-2007, 09:18 AM
Hmmm, a 4.2 - it gives a whole new meaning to "Get Away Thursday" - and Friday and Saturday too!

I'm sure people who don't experience these earthquakes wonder how we can just go back to bed............but, when it's over - it's over and you do - just go back to bed if they are early in the morning.

We will have a hot cup of tea waiting for you when you wake up!
