I thought it would be neat to share facts about pets with everyone... If you have a fact about an animal post it for everyone to see!! I found a few facts about dogs to share with everyone..


-Puppies should remain with their mother until they are at least eight weeks old. During this time, she will teach them not to bite, and how to get along with other dogs.


-Mixed-breed dogs usually have behavioral traits similar to the breed they most resemble in appearance

-People with more than one dog shouldn't try to treat them all as equals. Because pack position is important to a dog, this only encourages jealousy games.


-A one-year-old dog is physically as mature as a 15 year-old human

Holding them upside down puts them in a relaxed mood where you can then kiss your buns nose 75 times.

Rabbits cannot throw up - so tummy trouble can be fatal for a rabbit.

Rabbits do not digest sugar well, so one needs to limit the amount of fruit they have each day. (Miss Hoppy gets three raisins a day).

Some people think rabbits are rodents, but they are not. They are classified as lagomorphs and have been since the early 20th century.


Miss Hoppy would disagree with the "putting a bunny upside down relaxes them" statement. She hates being upside down, and will only just tolerate it.

Dogs' internal clocks are really magnificent. They know when it's time for you to arrive home, feed them, or go to bed if you are normally on a schedule.

Brush your dog 3 times a week in the spring, and you'll have a summer free from shedding.

Don't attempt to teach your dog anything else until he will sit and stay on command for at least one minute

The burying of bones is part of a dog's instinctive feeding ritual; shaking things viciously is part of the hunting ritual.

Now a few facts about cats for everyone.

Contrary to popular belief, the cat is a social animal. A pet cat will respond and answer to speech , and seems to enjoy human companionship.

Cats have AB blood groups just like people

The color of the points in Siamese cats is heat related. Cool areas are darker

Cats can get tapeworms from eating mice. If your cat catches a mouse it is best to take the prize away from it.

You can tell a cat's mood by looking into its eyes. A frightened or excited cat will have large, round pupils. An angry cat will have narrow pupils. The pupil size is related as much to the cat's emotions as to the degree of light.

Does it have to be "Pet" related facts? I ask this because I find it very interesting that the opossum is the only marsupial in North America.

The Opossum is almost entirely immune to rabies.

(I forget the exact number, or vocabulary of the words, but...) The Crow is one vocal cord shy of being a song bird. Virtually no other non-song bird can make that claim of being oh so close to fame. ;)

They are called MONOTREMES, and they represent a species of mammals that are very ancient, because they lay eggs as birds and reptiles do.
They also produce milk to feed their young.
And do you know what a young monotreme is called ??? A PUGGLE !!!!!

What the heck I figured I would do a few more...

Rabbits are nocturnal and therefore are active between dusk and dawn.

Ferrets have no inherent fear of humans.

A newborn ferret is so small that it can fit into a teaspoon!

All ferret kits have white fur at birth.

When a chinchilla is grooming himself, he is happy and relaxed

Guinea pigs love being petted and will fall asleep in your lap if they trust you.

Golden or Syrian hamsters must be kept singly after the age of ten weeks. Though they will bond with their human companions, they are not social with other hamsters or animals.

Guinea pigs will eat the material they chew on unlike hamsters who chew and spit.

Cats are basically lactose intollerant.

8 cats can be trained to open the bathroom door when they shut themselves in there while playing (my door doesn't actually latch though). ;)
