Since I only have boys, I have had very little experience with girls being spayed.

Lindy has managed to untie her stitches and she has a big hard lump where her incision is. Sweetpea had a small lump and I was told this is normal, but Lindy's is much bigger than what Sweetpea had.

Here are a few pictures of it. So from those who have had experience with female spays, could you please tell me if this looks normal or not. Do you feel a vet check is in order??

The white stuff you see, is like dried crusted skin.

Call your vet and tell them about the lump. Could be a hernia...yep, more stitching needed.

It may NOT be that, but much better with this to be safe than sorry!

Looks normal to me but the vet should be able to take a quick peek without charging you.

It doesn't look horrible. I've seen some nasty infected sites. There may be a lump inside due to the body reacting to the stitching on the muscle area... some cats get a reaction to the "foreign body" there (the stitch).

If it gets really red, hot to the touch, and really inflamed over the entire suture site, I'd get her back to the vet ASAP. You can do warm compresses on her tummy to help it feel better. You can use betadine or just warm water on the cloth. Make sure it's a clean cloth every time.

Okay, thanks you three. You have put my mind somewhat at ease. :)

There is some redness, but it isn't hot to the touch.

I will keep an eye on it for any changes.

I agree with above posts. Have the vet take a quick peek, just in case, but it doesn't look like anything to be overly freaked out over. :)

I just had my girl spayed in March and that lump looks exactly like hers did. I called the vet and was told it's the swelling from the internal stitches. Dixie also pulled the top two of her four stitches within days of her surgery and I was told as long as the wound isn't pulled open, it'll be fine.

That's a healthy crust on your kitty so I wouldn't worry too much. If you spot some dried blood or seeping from it, then you might want to place a call but I think that looks like it's healing great!

To me it looks okay. As long as it's not hot and red like they said.

She probably just did too much tugging on it trying to pull out the stitches.

It looks like the powder we used at the vets office to close the incision up. I would call to see if they use that powder... Does not look too bad though. Hope she gets better soon!
