Long story short... Chad made up a BS story about Axle & now they may try to take him away from me(Chad said Axle tried to attack him)... They are gonna call me back in a few days with their offer & she hopes I can get a license or something in the mean time!
I'm in Mississauga/Ontario/Canada... & have a Common Snapping Turtle.. had him for 8yrs (since he was a couple days old)...
PLEASE help me findout what I need to do to get a license... I Do NOT trust these places, as I have been told over & over, that the animal will be accepted & then destroyed later because of what it is.
I'm already collecting the studies that hes been involved in, & I'm collecting photos of him & his progress.
I'm also getting copies of the law & GAH!!!... I will never forgive Chad for this EVER!!! Axle did no harm to anyone & never has!! If I loose Axle because of this BS story I will create a WW3 of pure hell!!!
I am extreamly moody so please reply with care, as I may snap when I shouldn't. Axle has been my life & I've always wanted a better understanding for his species!!
Not trying to upset you, but I don't think you can get a sanctuary/rescue liscene without a place of residence and address for such sanctuary. I don't live in Canada so I don't know, but I also don't think it's a quick process of something you could get in a day. You'd need to have a valid place to have a rescue at.

How about this: Call a place that already rescues reptiles...or call a vet that treats them.
They will have some kind of license...and maybe work out a way to "surrender" Axle so that you can get him back in the future.
Also, tell them about your situation, and they might know a way to get around this.
HUGS!
Maybe you should train Axle to attack Chad...where it'll turn him into a soprano!
Prayers headed your way and to the professionals that will help you!

good to know... I was surfing all over the net (I had no idea what I was looking for).. I stumbled upon some law stuff & found a number... I called them & its been very annoying!
The number is 705-755-1373 (Wildlife Laws).. that lady passed me off to a guy named Peter, who passed me back to the lady
So the lady said she'll get a hold of whoever I need to talk to & she'll give them my number.. If I don't hear from her by 2pm, I'll be calling back as I don't have the time to play the waiting game. :(

In the beginning of the email I got a phone call!!
It sounded fairly positive.
The lady explained some things to me, but thinks I should be able to get some form or licence to keep him, as I have had him a long time & was a kid when I got him... She also said that the program to not be allowed to keep animals like Axle is fairly new & is NOT well known at all, so I'm not the only person unaware of this, as there is so little to no info about this, & when people tell you your following hte laws, they are missleading me as they themselves have no idea about this.
She gave me 2 people to call that are in my county. However the supervisor she wants me to talk to wont be in until a little later today (but I can wait, as I'm determined to keep my baby) & the other person, is at lunch.
So this is looking more positive already!!

Are you still sending the email to Peterborough?
Couldn't hurt...you might need a temporary refuge at some point.
I've read a couple of this guy's postings. He and his wife have this rescue, and seem pretty down-to-earth.
Good luck!

my goodness.. this lady is awesome! Shes doing all the running around for me :)
she called again asking more details about his species as no one knows anything about him (except me :P). She has contacts at the toronto zoo & shes hoping the info she gets will be positive & might help me get the licence for him
EDIT:
She said by the sounds of things, hes not only domesticated, he responds mainly to me & we have a good understanding with each other... She was trying hard, real hard not to giggle at a lot of my comments, cause Axle & I are a very unique pair & how often do you hear about a snapping turtle sleeping on its momma's pillow!! :D

That sounds great!
But if it is really expensive - consider the Peterborough angle.

They didn't mention anything about a cost.. I'm hoping its free or cheap.. if its not, I just have to call dad. I HATE having to get dad to bale me out of things... but he told me yesterday, he wants to know about ALL my stresses & how he can help.. I told him I have a few, but I think I can handle them on my own.. he said if hes needed to let him know. He said he just wants to see me have a chance of a life.. once the mess is cleared, then I'm 100% on my own.
I'm still writting that email as a back up.. but will hold off until I see whats going on with the licence thing. Cause if I get accepted then YAY!!

Just a suggestion: Email Peterborough. They may know someone closer to you where you could put Axle under their licence "umbrella" - it would save Axle and save you the hassle of calling your dad.
I don't KNOW for sure if that can be done - but it is worth looking into, I think.
I am sure this reptile specialist has a few connections and tricks up his sleeve!

 Oh i don't even know this Chad personally and i can honestly say i .... dislike him very VERY much!
Wishing you the best of luck with Axle! (I almost said " best of luck with your snapper, but i recently found out here in the states that comment could have been taken in a VERY lewd way. Yeash... people need to get lives.)
If you want i can try and dig in some archives. A few months ago a guy a few miles from me in Bay County, MI made headlines when his 6 ft alligator escaped and was found in a ditch. (In MI it's against the law to have any predatory animal with out about a zillion permits and degrees.) Rather than let it be destroyed some reptile agency in the area was able to step in and contact a refuge in the south. The alligator will live out the rest of it's life down there. (Normally transports out of state are prohibited also, but strings were pulled.) If i could find the name of the group maybe you could contact them and see if they have any Can. contacts.
